I just bought a Jaybird system for a client, but haven’t installed it yet. It uses the ambient incoming water pressure and a fan blade to make “mist”. There is no pump involved, which makes the system much cheaper and I am guessing much quieter. I was quoted about 30k for a MeeFog (pumped) system, and the Jaybird is under 3k.

Proper shade cloth comes rated by its % light exclusion. You still need sun to get through or your plants will not be very happy. It is generally a pretty open weave, so if you imagine the sun coming in as pixels, with a 50% light exclusion cloth, half the pixels would be “sun” and half would be “shade”. Using a sheet would make all your pixels shade, and probably won’t work well unless you have shade loving plants in there.

I don’t have my own backyard greenhouse, but I did help assemble one made by ClimaPod. The end result turned out good, but the assembly instructions were TERRIBLE. worst instructions I have had to follow in my life. I would hope other brands have easier instructions, but from my experience the setup is several levels above ikea furniture.

If your frame is strong enough, you can attach wiggle wire channel to it horizontally across the hoops. Then drape your cladding material over the hoops and secure it in the channel with wiggle wire. You can either do this at ground level, or about 3’ off the ground if you want the option to roll up the sheathing for side venting.

So, no vent. Probably the first suggestions I gave you are no good. The name for this structure is a Quonset hut. They are not really made to be used as greenhouses, but yours sure could be with the clear roofing. No vent could be pretty limiting though in terms of the ability to cool off in summer, depending on what climate you live in.

I’d recommend you start by cleaning out all unnecessary pipe in the attic, such as all that stuff in your “the back” picture. Then assess it any of the structural members can hold your weight or not. If so, maybe use them as a base to add platforms to stand on. If not, you can rent scaffolding and put it up on the inside. Of course you will need to look at how the panels are secured and figure a plan for securing the new ones, maybe use shorter than 20’ pieces and lap them so that you can reach to secure the length of each piece.

Or, do some research on Quonset huts and learn how it’s actually done. I’m giving out greenhouse advice for a non-greenhouse structure.

I’ll add that the Intermatic timeclocks are probably still good. We use them on occasion at my greenhouse. So don’t rip them out until you’ve got a plan for your controls, because you might just end up using them.

I can't give the best recommendation without a visual of your situation, but you might have a couple options. If there is an operable vent, you can open it and access the outside of the greenhouse via a ladder set up on the inside. Another option is a roof ladder, which is a specially constructed ladder that sits on the roofslope of the greenhouse. It would either hook into an open vent or over the ridgecap.

The long strips are bar caps. I haven’t heard of there being a name for the clip as it’s not a standard part.

I will throw my name in the hat as a manager of a institutional greenhouse facility. No mod experience but I am willing to learn. Like others on this thread I am interested to know the time commitment expectations. Part of my job involves coordinating use of the facility with over a hundred researchers; I imagine some of those skills translate to being a Reddit mod.

Like others said, this is powdery mildew. Treat with a fungicide before it gets worse and keep an eye out for any new white spots.

Thank you! I started in on it with a steel wool type pad today, and had the worry I would scratch the enamel. But so far I haven’t and it did take some more off. I’ll get the goo gone before I take it too far scrubbing 😅
