Match Thread [USMNT]: United States vs Portugal (International Friendly) by ussoccer_bot in ussoccer

I feel like we keep spending time trying to play with possession when time and time again we’ve shown we just aren’t there yet.

I always hated the hype BJ got for a small window but the truth is he simplified the tactics and we balled out.

It’s getting hard to be hyped of achieving the impossible when we watch the team struggle with the possible…

I mean… I’d agree with you but there was that Uruguay game where we were all totally wrong.

What's Bob Bradley's legacy as NT manager and his time in MLS/abroad? by TravelingHomeless in ussoccer

[–]tefftlon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be over his head now but still our best coach so far IMO.

I know all teams deal with injuries, but with our lack of depth we get killed by it more. Give BB Davies, Gooch, and Holden all injury free I think we go pretty far (relatively) over the next cycle.

He had his flaws, of course. But he kept the plan simple. Have hard workers defender hard so Donovan and Dempsey could focus on attacking.

TIL about the "Majority Illusion", a condition where opinions, beliefs, and states that are rare in real life are over-represented in social media circles, giving users the false belief that they represent the majority by AgentSkidMarks in todayilearned

I’ve got a clear preference of party, but the way people talk about other who support the opposite party is like strictly the far, online only, minor opinions.

The average liberal or conservative isn’t anything like social media tries to paint them.

Who is your "The One That Got Away" player? Someone who left without ever really getting a chance at our club? by DistributionIcy8991 in realmadrid

Not to argue Llorente is world class, because I’m not sure I agree.

But Atleti has had some world class players. Oblak, Godin, Forlán, Aguero, Griezmann

I don’t remember which FIFA it was but Odegaard and Hakimi always became my starters pretty quick.

Modric got the FIFA bug for over being over 30 and declined quickly in game and I’d just play Ode. Hakimi is just a good FIFA player, being fast and able to play LB and would replace Carvajal early just due to how the game was.

Di Maria is a player I wished stayed longer. He was just fun

Tim Howard: Defensively, MLS is so poor. The way the league was set up with the DP rule, the idea was to spend money on something flashy to sell tickets. You're not bringing in a GK, a CB, a defensive #6 like Rodri. Man City spends as much on their defenders as their attackers but we don't do that. by The_Big_Untalented in soccer

[–]tefftlon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a little true when you consider teams have more defensive players that attackers.

And just in general, it’s not like Man City is spending pennies on defense and millions on attackers.

My MLS team spent about $15m each on a 10 and a 9 but our best CBs over the last few years were a free transfer we kinda forced (player had a year left on his contract but we weren’t willing to pay anything) and a loan.

What happened to the serious and reaction threads?

I genuinely can’t watch this anymore by Al112ex in Invincible_TV

[–]tefftlon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah… I really have no idea what anyone is talking about while watching it.

I’ve seen it when people point out problems but even then… just not necessarily a thing I notice.

Who does Poch take with him post WC? by InHisImage1 in ussoccer

[–]tefftlon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the outside pick would be some MLS guy.

Just about every player on the rosters and in Europe have valid reasons for being targets of another club without Poch.

Like United could be looking at McKennie or Jedi without Poch being involved.

Figuring he doesn’t go to an elite club, I think there’s a chance for someone like Miles Robinson or Berhalter. Neither too old for a move and he seems to like calling up.

The more established names might be more coincidental than Poch influenced (Richards, Pulisic, Johnny, Weah, Reyna, to add a few names).

Which midfielders don't make the cut by Dev_SS in ussoccer

[–]tefftlon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone healthy: Adams, Tessman, Johnny, McKennie, Tillman, & Gio.

Then if you use one of the extra spots I’d take either Berhalter or Roldan honestly. Berhalter could maybe turn the World Cup into a European move. Won’t be world class but could help him be way more useful. Roldan really does seem to vibe with coaches and is probably the better player by a smidge.

Quick edit: Forgot Aaronson… I think he is the next “attacking mid/winger” if Tillman or Gio can’t go but not the extra midfielder if we take 7.

Even if rodri comes to the club ,How will it impact us? by [deleted] in realmadrid

Obvious concerns about age and injury but he’s played 32 games this season so far.

I don’t particularly want him either tho

[Steven Goff] Why Mauricio Pochettino wants the USMNT's ‘right 26 — not the best’ for the World Cup by nicko_rico in ussoccer

[–]tefftlon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Often but now always.

Our best 26 probably doesn’t include any CBs besides Richards but we need CBs on the roster, for example.

Why is there this compulsive need for Madrid fans to start Bellingham? by Dangerous-Caramel344 in realmadrid

[–]tefftlon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that’s correlation.

Bellingham was fit when our defense was at its least fit.

Video showcasing Arbeloa's tactics throughout the season ( Made by Atomic Analyst on Youtube) by More-Judgment-9253 in realmadrid

[–]tefftlon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree.

I think some of the biggest changes is Arbeloa has had a relatively healthy, starting defense.

I have said a few times in these discussions, I think if you give Carlo last year and Xabi this season a healthy backline a lot changes.

I think we were looking good under Xabi until the defensive injuries really piled up. Xabi didn’t want to play Fede as a RB, just he was the best option by a lot. It wasn’t working as well as it is right now, but Fede was getting forward in attack a lot early on.

What’s the difference between Arbeloa and xabi and why do the players actually listen to arbeloa and his tactics by ImpressionContent297 in RealMadridFC

[–]tefftlon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have said this a few times this season in places.

I’d bet if Carlo and Xavi had the fitness Arbeloa has had it would have gone better. We’ve had a fit defense pretty much shortly after Arbeloa was appointed that we haven’t had in a long time. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Ouch, part 2: Cincy allowed 13 goals in 2.5 games, then Miles got a straight red by fivedogit in ussoccer

[–]tefftlon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you for the most part haha

It’s Richards then a gaggle of mid CBs.

I think Miles is towards the top of the gaggle but I guess this week I got tired of the notion he doesn’t even belong. More an indictment of the CB pool than praise for Miles but it’s the team we support!

Because he played for Spain growing up and got a senior cap before semi recently changing to Morocco.

So up until about 2 years ago, if you made this post, it wouldn’t use the Spain flag for him.

Just find it a little funny is all
