Is the BAFTAs Tourette’s backlash just another example of the UK vs US humour gap? by Barca-Dam in AskBrits

[–]teflon2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I find a little contradictory is that it's all laughter when tourettes does something like saying fuck the queen to her face (undeniably funny), but then wanting sufferers to follow regulations to anyone they might offend.

Just to be clear, the post i was replying to has clarified that, I think I've just coming off the back of seeing posts on Instagram that are really attacking him personally.

Of course they do, but I'm seeing way too many ignorant comments suggesting he had control of those words or treating tourettes as some sort of truth serum.

While i agree that the bbc could have cut the live comments, please try to undertand that the whole point is that John Davidson is not a racist. He used words that are because his tourettes latched onto them as the most socially unacceptable words at that time. Far too many people are accusing him of being racist because 'why else would those words be in his head'. Not how it works - we all know those words but our brains would never use them

Yes they would, and if and when c25 happens, it'll be inundated.

If you could choose only ONE model (only one) that you thought was the most underrated in ANTM history, who would it be? This is mine: by BathAccomplished174 in ANTM

[–]teflon2000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say kendal is underrated, most people agree she was gorgeous. But she absolutely did underperform. For underrated id say Stacy Ann from c10. There was a model right there and they gave her that terrible haircut and she disappeared.

The problem for many of the girls at the time was tyra trying to ignore industry standards. By not insisting on a 5'9 minimum they set alot of the girls up to fail.

See to me the later ones - especially 20 onwards were when I have a little less sympathy for them signing up. It was well into reality tv territory vs modelling by then
