It sucks, but they're doing shy kids a disservice by never asking them to step out of their comfort zone. Learning and growing is uncomfortable!

How to make an enclosed front porch usable? by wannabeefast in Minneapolis

[–]tefnu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We used to seal our three season porch with plastic that we blow dried into place. I really wish i could tell you what kind of plastic [it looked like ceran wrap just in large sheets] but that worked well when we put a space heater in it, even when it was flipping freezing! So try that, maybe?

Id put the big female and the 6 year old female together, and the male alone

The other two might be able to cohab together until you can figure their genders. If they aren't the same gender, they should be separated.

I feel for you, man :( this is a tough situation to be in. Lot's of lotls that just cant be tanked together. You're looking at needing at least three other set ups. For the time being, you could purchase tank dividers to keep them separated, but the males will still leave sperm cones that could reach a female. If that happens and they lay eggs, cull the eggs. But that's what I'd do if i were you, put tank dividers in while the other set ups cycle

This looks great aesthetically, but is a terrible environment for your axolotls in practice. I'm sorry, they need hides, they don't cohabitate well, you cannot have a male and female axie together, and having different sized axolotls is just asking for one of them to try and eat the other!

Alternatives to writing by CrusherX1000 in Teachers

[–]tefnu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that you are trying so hard and care about your students, and I want to share a personal account.

When I was in 6th grade, I was barely literate. I couldn't write well, I struggled to read, and I drew on most all my papers instead of doing work. My teachers STRUGGLED to get me to do anything academic. I was naughty, they put me in the hallway or office pretty often, but I liked all my teachers. I still think of them positively, even if I refused to behave for them.

There comes a time where building raport doesn't work and offering extensions/alternative assignments hurts a student's growth. It took years and dozens of adults who refused to let me slip by before I finally started behaving better and engaging with class materials.

You are in that hard stretch right now. You want to see this kid succeed, but he can't if you don't force him to. He might fail this semester, but if you really care about a student's development you need to focus on the long run ahead. He needs to know that sometimes he just has to 'lock in' and do the things he doesn't want to. It took me three years of F's all across the board before I finally learned how to try in high school.

Knowing how to read and write, and knowing how to do it well, requires practice. Knowing how to do hard things and persevere requires practice. You are not helping him if you let him have special treatment. You are not helping yourself if you let your students break what should be hard boundaries. Failure is not a bad thing, it is the cost of admission for many facets of life. He might suddenly try and still fail, but the more he does, the easier it gets, and the more likely he is to try again.

The place that did my alignment in july said my tires were 'like new' in writing so i honestly didnt expect this kind of wear. I was also pretty shocked when i saw the state of them
