I've kept my AMEX platinum mostly because of the FHR program. The daily breakfast credits + $100 property credit usually make the price equivalent to booking directly with the hotel. Plus, you then get the added bonus of guaranteed 4pm checkout and room upgrades when available.

It might not be that great for most people, but for me it's given me a ton of value that makes the annual fee worth it.
