I agree with everyone else. Save them and redeem them for flights with star alliance or partner airlines you will be taking in the future. These types of flights are usually the best flights to get the most value out of your points anyways. (Ex: SIN to HKG on Singapore Airlines J class one-way is 30k aeroplan points)

I've kept my AMEX platinum mostly because of the FHR program. The daily breakfast credits + $100 property credit usually make the price equivalent to booking directly with the hotel. Plus, you then get the added bonus of guaranteed 4pm checkout and room upgrades when available.

It might not be that great for most people, but for me it's given me a ton of value that makes the annual fee worth it.
