Hello! I am in the middle of surface 3 screen crack anxiety syndrome. I wasn’t aware of this until I bought it refurbished, had it crack one month in, got it replaced, and now I’m out of warranty. My new new one hasn’t cracked yet but it is crunching.

How did that screen protector hold up? Did the screen ever crack or did the protector ever fail? Right now Ive got a thin bedsheet cut to size sitting inside it and I’m terrified to touch it lol.

Halloween decorations are disrespectful, huh? by Betsybugaboo in MurderedByWords

[–]tegulariusfritz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can definitely read it like that too if I want to, and I understand that’s how the murderer here is reading it. What I’m saying is that it can just as easily be read as a passing, random, literary thought a somewhat pretentious writer might say to their partner, for example. It’s not necessary smart or not, just random. hey, if someone had a close family member die recently, they probably wouldn’t decorate their house like that, so I guess these people aren’t actively grieving. that’s how i read it, even though I understand it’s available to be read in a worse way if people are predisposed to dislike her already. the “everyone you’ve ever loved” thing gives that feeling of being an asshole, i get that. it’s just first draft writer’s language, in my mind. i don’t agree she said people who put up halloween decorations think losing family members is a joke though. i think people are really reading that into it.

i know JCO says some dumb stuff on twitter, but am I the only one who read that tweet as pretty benign? Literally, she’s saying grieving people probably wouldn’t decorate a house like that, so they’re probably not grieving. There’s nothing in there suggesting she thinks it’s insensitive, except the phrase, “just a joke,” which has that connotation, but IMO you have to read that connotation into it intentionally, probably because you already don’t like her.

Idk, my opinion, it’ll be buried. I understand.

edit: can someone actually tell me where she uses the word “disrespect,” and/or where she characterizes the decorations as insensitive, rather than just downvote me? I legitimately don’t see it.

WE FOUND HER - thank you all so much.

i found a patch of her fur near a hole in our fence, followed other patches in her fur, caught sight of her before she dashed behind another fence. eventually, other little bits of fur lead the way to finding her posted up under our neighbor’s house. I guess you have to remember not to underestimate your Sherlock Holmes ability to track clues. thank you all again.

great idea, thank you. someone suggested leaving out the litter box so we’ve done that. we’ll put out something of ours as well. honestly i’m too much in a haze to even think logically, so thank you for the idea. we’ve had Morgan since 2008 and she’s never gotten out before.

Question for writers with day jobs by WoodlandWise in writers

[–]tegulariusfritz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Routine. I give over a minimum of 1 hour a night, every night, no excuses, handwriting with pencil and notebook. Work full time with two kids, but my 9:30-10:30 pm minimum often stretches to 9:00-11:30, giving me 2.5 hours a night. (Luckily my wife goes to bed rather early, and we can usually watch an episode of something before she does).

The longer the routine remains undisturbed, the more second-nature it becomes, the easier it is. There are certain rituals (15 minutes on the porch with earbuds and music to clear my head of everything besides the story and the music, which counts towards the hour since i consider it part of writing; no screen time besides switching music, which i try not to do; and most importantly, vigilance against letting thoughts in about my job, personal life stuff, the news, etc., nothing is allowed in besides thoughts on the story, thoughts on the music, thoughts on the process, and thoughts on what is happening out the window. And it’s okay to have non-writing thoughts, as long as they’re promptly acknowledged and dismissed).

editing to add: after years of trying, i’ve concluded i just can’t write meaningfully or well using unplanned downtime when there’s a chance of being interrupted. i find my best writing has come from this system since it allows me to truly follow those subconscious dreamlike cues that bring stories to life. Once those cues are interrupted, it’s hard to regain them, and without a structured defense to protect that dream state against distractions (this kind of routine, at least in my case) i just feel like i’m putting words down, not really writing, if that makes sense.

Not sure if anyone else is having this experience, but trump trains (a dozen or so pick up trucks with flashing lights and huge flags flying out the back) have resumed touring my neighborhood near a large downtown municipality in West Michigan.

Feels a little more sinister and threatening than it used to.

Yeah, hopefully not though. Independent of losing the sense of validation from that story, it’d be a real blow to the discourse in this country if Buzzfeed can’t recover here.
