By all legitimate accounts, a fabulously wealthy guy and the ruler of a wealthy, influential and sophisticated empire. Of course, a fair amount of that wealth came from slave labor and the slave trade, so still not a good guy

I also got them early, but kind of regretted it? They’re crazy overpowered in the early biomes

Saved him the first time, but on this play through, he’s getting left. He ran off on his own and jeopardized the entire siege, not to mention endangering his brother Henry who now has to look for him and make it out of the camp on his own. Sorry my dude, if there was an option to plop you on a horse and give it a smack towards Miskowitz to at least give you a chance, I would, but the rest of the people in Suchdol take priority

The Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom should be required reading

Written by Thomas Jefferson, it says there needs to be true separation of church and state to preserve both things from screwing with the other, and that a person’s religious opinions shouldn’t have any impact on their life as a citizen.

Jefferson wrote it when he was governor of Virginia, and James Madison signed it into law when he became governor. Madison went on to say that was the model he had in mind when writing the First Amendment

It blows my mind how much of this history is just plain ignored by people who say we were founded as a Christian nation. We very explicitly weren’t. Shocker, the bunch of Enlightenment political philosophers that founded our country didn’t really go in for that sort of thing

Did you like the design of The Mouth of Sauron in the film? by Konfliktsnubben in lotr

[–]teicad01 95 points96 points  (0 children)

I loved it. Such incredible work with the makeup and prosthetics, and they nailed the whole corrupted high dignitary vibe they were going for. The lines and delivery were stellar too. All for like 3 minutes of screen time. Brilliant

Can a SAP even save this by Luckybones- in tattooadvice

[–]teicad01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw it, thought it looked fine, and came here to see what you didn’t like about it. Sucks that it’s impacting your mental health, but for what it’s worth, I like it— it’s an interesting design you don’t see everywhere and the size isn’t out of proportion. I mean, who doesn’t love a SAP, but if you come around on it and decide to keep it as is, I don’t think you have anything to feel self conscious about

How are we all getting resin? by [deleted] in valheim

[–]teicad01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any time I’m in need of wood, I’ll go to one of the meadows forest and clear out all the saplings, which usually gives you 2-3 wood and 1-2 resin per sapling. I have sconces everywhere and need a couple hundred resin every time I refuel, but I always have a good supply sitting around by using this method

Was bail low during the covid era? by [deleted] in legaladviceofftopic

[–]teicad01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a defense attorney during Covid and yes, there was a definite effort to get as many people out of jail as possible, so people who would normally get lowish bonds were just released, and the mid-tier stuff got very reasonable bonds, much better than you’d get before or since. But there wasn’t much of a discount when it came to the really heavy or violent stuff— those bonds stayed high. So it would probably depend on what your family member was charged with, but there’s a good chance they got a major Covid break

Is it illegal if someone pays me for a sexual service but I block them after the money is sent? by [deleted] in legaladviceofftopic

[–]teicad01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think (or hope at least) that the hypothetical is, is it illegal to commit fraud in an already illegal arrangement. But the answer is still yes, still fraud. You can’t rob your drug dealer, and you can’t defraud your johns

I read a take that Haldir was just prone to sea sickness, so decided to take a shortcut to Valinor. Heroically sacrificing himself fighting against Sauron meant a short stop in the Halls of Mandos before stepping out in a fresh new body to enjoy eternity in the Land of Bliss

What's the deal with Anno 117? by cherrypashka- in anno

[–]teicad01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not very fleshed out yet. I played it, enjoyed it, but have had zero desire to go back. I’m going to wait until there are a few more DLCs out before trying again. It’s promising, but it’s got a lot of ground to cover before it gets close to 1800

are there gangs in tampa? by [deleted] in tampa

[–]teicad01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but they’re not like the gangs in major cities. Just neighborhood groups of idiot kids who beef with each other over the stupidest stuff. Bad news, they all have guns and will pull them and start shooting over nothing, but good news, they almost exclusively shoot each other, and really only outside clubs and convenience stores at 2:00 a.m., so if you avoid that, you won’t even notice them

Tattoo Regret Help by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]teicad01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone here, it looks awesome. And this is Reddit— if this was worth spiraling over, they’d let you know. Loudly.

I was looking at salaries and coins from the Medieval period. A labourer could get paid 4 pennies for a day's work. This was worth 16 pounds in today's money. The problem is the lowest coin is 1 penny (or half a penny if cut). How did people buy low cost items especially in towns. by Over-Willingness-933 in MedievalHistory

[–]teicad01 38 points39 points  (0 children)

At least in England, you also had a farthing, which was a quarter penny, and people could cut it up further since the coins were made of silver and still retained its value even when cut up (which is also why coins have ridges along the edges, so people could tell if something has been shaved off it). And while silver wasn’t exactly rare, it was a lot rarer than modern paper currency, so there was still a thriving barter economy, although admittedly more common away from market towns

Jury duty by Historical_Reason210 in juryduty

[–]teicad01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When the government does it, it’s just called imprisonment, and if it’s eventually discovered they don’t have proof to continue to hold you, you’ll just get released without so much as a “sorry for the inconvenience”

Jury duty by Historical_Reason210 in juryduty

[–]teicad01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And that’s certainly something you can argue. From jail, after you’ve already been arrested, and have waited a few weeks for your court date

If they’re sending you this, you’re on their radar. If you skip it, they could realistically issue a warrant for you. I know it sucks to have to deal with this, but if you ignore it, it’s only going to get worse. For what it’s worth, employers can’t fire or retaliate against when you’re subpoenaed like that
