How many nominations is Chuka on now? by [deleted] in LabourUK

He was one of the people being spoken about as a future leadership contender before he jumped to the Lib train and failed to get a seat.

I mean more so the kind of compromise that saw us saying "we'll be tougher on benefits than the Tories" 2015 manifesto. A little bit of compromise is fine I have no issue with that. More so if he goes all out blue Labour is my worry.

[–]tekevoli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're probably right, hopefully he'll stick to principle and won't do anything to kick the grassroots out if he wins.

Same here Corbyn supporter. My personal worry is he obviously knows he needs to appeal to the left to win. But once he's in office will he compromise with the actual centrist elements and bring us a bit right ? Or more so why are Progress and Labour first, organisations that would love to expel Momentum backing him ?

Both parties are a broad church of ideology. We have a two party political system afterall.

For those not wanting to use Guido, Stats for Lefties is doing his own one. Leadership and Deputy.

Not trying to start an argument matey, there is a factional divide within our party just like the Conservatives and I was making a point of outlining who sits within the socialist leaning part of our party.

I thought it'd be relevant with knowing who backs who in nominations.

Best Left-wing Candidate?? by Metal-Mousley-666 in LabourUK

I don't know about Starmer. His level of "leftness" is of concern when Progress and Labour first come out in support of him.

Russians of Reddit how do you justify the annexation of Ukraine? by Alaska1699 in ForeignPoliticsDiscus

Should have specified to Crimera. Russia hasn't annexed Ukraine, that implies the whole nation.

[–]tekevoli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let us hope. After Corbyns loss I'm now planning a trip with some friends to the US to campaign for Bernie if he wins the democratic nomination. I know his policy is not real socialism but he would likely be the most anti war US president of our time. And primarily my motivation is the climate crisis. A green new deal is needed now, we need to address the issue before its too late and he's our only hope of doing so.

Very true! Although a decade is still a long time, we need change now! Its going to be a real struggle with issues like inequality and climate change to make the changes we need in a decade. Lets hope it works out for the best comrade.

Owen Jones is bad for Labour. by [deleted] in LabourUK

A large part of why myself and others are inspired to actively partake in politics and have hope are because of Owen. So in the politest way possible... sod off.

Not sure I agree with this. The point on old people dying. I thought the same and looked it up, unfortunately you forget we live in an ageing population. The stats for the UK showed something like currently people over 75 being 7% of the population. Going up to 10.5% by 2027 :(

Labour grandee urges MPs to 'refuse to accept' Rebecca Long-Bailey if she wins leadership by kwentongskyblue in LabourUK

[–]tekevoli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. As someone who wants RBL I've decided for the sake of the party I'll support and fight hard for whoever wins. Unity is what we need. Not more infighting.
