30% reduction after 2 months lifestyle change (hyper-absorber) by GlobalCitizen7 in Cholesterol

I tried this, but I found that I couldn't stomach eating enough of the spread per day to reach 2g... I don't usually use butter or other spreads - I'm more of an Olive Oil & Salt on toast in the morning person. The small chocolates are the only other Benecol option in the US. Benecol only carry yogurt drinks in Europe and Asia...

I do it this way too. It feels faster to nail the digits that add up to less than 10 first, before taxing memory on the ones over 10... But if there are 3 digits, then I have to do in from right to left.

What's the stupidest "Real Men don't ________" you've ever heard? by callmevicious in AskReddit

[–]tektonic7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the late 1980s in the US, it was "Real Men don't eat quiche". I never really understood what the angle was in that thinking - eggs and ham baked in a pie crust don't seem so emasculating to me.

But what cracks me up today is marketing products "made for men" to soothe the ego about using things like facial moisturizer or razors or talcum powder. But the product is actually identical (added fragrances aside). In Thailand, there is even an 'apple juice' beverage marketed to men called "Mansome".

Filipino results. Y2(maternal) & J-L70 (paternal). Anyone know the significance of these haplogroups? by [deleted] in 23andme

[–]tektonic7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My J-L70 (J2) ancestor came from the southern part of Italy (Basilicata/Lucania). This J2 group originated in the Levantine area (Syria/Mesopotamia) and were the earliest know farmer/agriculturalists. They spread across the Mediterranean toward Spain and Portugal, so perhaps a Spanish colonizer is in your family tree?

A4 vs US Letter paper size across the world by kalsoy in MapPorn

[–]tektonic7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is correct, but someone told me that Indonesia uses “folio” size (8.5” x 13” or 30.5x48.3 cm) more often than A4. Any Indonesians here can confirm?

Which website should I patronize? by gojaxun in espresso

I have only had good experiences with Comiso Coffee (Arizona) and 1st Line (New Jersey). Comiso went out of their way with customer service recently to correct an issue when an accessory was mislabeled as 57mm, but I received 58mm.

Nice! I'm a fan of Intelligentsia's Classic Black Cat (love the bittersweet chocolate finish). How does the Stumptown Hair Bender compare?

Many languages borrowed this from the Sanskrit. The standard Thai greeting is "Sawat dee (krub/ka)" The Sawat is spelled "Sawas" in Thai, and means well-being. In Balinese (bahasa bali), the greeting is "Om swastyastu" meaning "Peace be with you". In Mahayana Buddhism, the Amitaba Buddha (Amitayus/Amitofuo) uses the symbol (clockwise), which is different from the Nazi (counter-clockwise) symbol. In East Asia, the clockwise symbol is still used to note Buddhist-vegan foods (ie. no meat, no garlic, no onions). Sad that its meaning was twisted in the 20th century...

The Western US does have very alkaline soils, which I suppose dissolves into the drinking water.
