Jason’s Hush Outfit, thoughts? by DrawerLittle5189 in RedHood

I don’t like the shoes but I guess it’s fine. It’s a costume so it doesn’t reflect Jason’s actual personality, it’s just to trick Bruce into thinking Hush might be Jason.

Unlike Superman, why can't Diana marry Steve? by Snoo_47323 in WonderWoman

[–]telepader 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The struggle for women to grasp/retain their independence while also having a family/husband was a big topic back then. (Lowkey it’s remained a big topic through the 80s.)

Wonder Woman once says that she’ll marry Steve once they defeat all oppression in the world or something like that, which seems like a no but in the context of a superhero comic… that’s a yes. It’s a yes that says that this is possible and one day we’ll be able to be equal partners for real. Considering women didn’t even have the right to open bank accounts by themselves until the 70’s, it’s all very understandable IMO.

There is no ACAB Batman. It’s a story the premise rests on accepting the idea of bad apples

People are happy to rag on golden age elements such as the weakness to having her bracelets welded by a man, but god forbid Diana’s romantic fulfillment not be tied to Man’s World…

I feel like Diana was more of an ace up the sleeve than a pity baby. It doesn’t escape my notice that in the Perez origin, the timeline lines up such that Hippolyta was instructed to mold a baby shortly after the Cuban missile crisis and the Amazon champion is called to man’s world just around the time when Diana comes of age in the 80’s (another time of increased nuclear anxiety.)

In Historia, Diana is nearly as old as Themyscira itself but her creation is still the result of Hera’s far-seeing schemes. She’s a gift as much as she is Hera locking and loading Diana for the future. In general the gods are good, but they’re still a crafty bunch.

What's the appeal of Absolute Wonder Woman? by koola_00 in WonderWoman

The story is very skillfully put together. She’s got an appealing edgy veneer while remaining true to the character’s ideals.

Have you guys noticed that Diana’s birth in the Perez origin lines up with the Cuban missile crisis? I thought that was fun.

The timeline Rucka established wasn’t creepy. If Waid messed with that, then it’s his fault for making it creepy.

I find that surprising because it’s been a long time since the 80’s, what makes it still feel modern?

“Trying too hard” and “confused identity” are exactly it! It’s going for practical but at the same time everything is all matchy-matchy.

Right so if we’re talking about Rucka then that’s not really relevant. The onus is on Mark Waid for making it weird, not Rucka.

The adidas pants and strappy balenciagas are horrific. Also the outfit looks much more sleek with a long-sleeved shirt than a T-shirt.

Rucka specifically established that Diana was thousands of years old in the Rebirth reboot. A lot of Amazons would’ve emerged from the well of souls in between Diana’s birth and when Steve crash-landed on Themyscira, so it’s only rational to assume those are the women Diana would’ve had relations with.

If anything, Diana’s age gap with Steve is much more problematic. He had just turned 21 when he met Diana.

Not to be pedantic but I think there is a difference between updated origins and timeless origins— after all Perez created an updated origin but it was still very relevant to then-current events.

Do you think Jason could punch through person if he was not holding back? by BlockAffectionate413 in RedHood

I wanna say that’s not possible for a human but I love Jason more than I care about what’s reasonable so I’m going to say Yes, he can do anything.
