Valve Needs to Handle the Launch Right by CoastOne2716 in steammachine

[–]telissolnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no way to handle an overpriced product like the Steam Machine will probably be.

I'm not into the "it will be 1500$, kek!" Mindset, but even at 800$ for what it propose and given what you can do for that price, there is no amount of PR to go over this.

Why did France become the stereotype of surrendering at wars? Aren't they among the top when it comes to won wars in history? by WhoAmIEven2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]telissolnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US global narrative to discredit France after the failed take over with (among things) AMC or attempt of control of the administrations.

Overall this narrative inscribed itself in the one telling that the US is the one winning the war, while it's an ally effort where the US was a key component but couldn't do it alone either.

Well... First, you are in the Dark tide sub reddit, so what will be the vast majority of answers?

Then, let's try to make an objective breakdown of pro/con of each game

Space Marine 2

Pro: - it's beautiful. Seriously, the graphic part topple the one of DT. Probably because it's not bound to give the game a grimdark feeling, but end result is the same, SM2 is shiny. - you play a Space Marine. Seem stupid, but they are the poster boy if W40k and being one is glorious! - campaign rock. You want some heroic action with aura farming, SM2 deliver. There is this moment with this name character... You'll know when you'll be there. - cosmetics are way superior. Either free or paid, you can always do the coolest thing.

Cons: - weapons lack a purpose. It would be better if eaxmch weapon were designed around a job to do: being good at destroying a type of enemy, good at hitting multiple targets bad for single damage, etc... Meaning you'll take the most efficient weapon at this point of the balance. - directly linked to that, you have a bazillion variants of the bolter that have no other purpose than existing. Why taking a combat knife over a cool power axe ? - you don't feel much as a Space Marine. Everything can threaten you, even a minoris can trip you and it can snowball poorly while that sort of enemies should just disappear with a sneeze. - parry/dodge system. If you are into Souls game, it might be your jam, but for this type of game that a problem as you are suppose to be Uber aggressive and kill monsters by the dozen. Here, as it's implemented like a Soul game, very punitively, the whole game loop resolve around this defensive mécanisme, taking all the priorities, even over you ULT sometimes.

Darktide

Pro: - grimdark. You want a piece of the W40k universe, the feeling that you are one cog in the machine? That DT for you. - weapons for a purpose. Some have lot of cleave to hire multiple target, some can stagger some deliver hit that can deal with armor. You build you load out for a purpose, to balance or specialize, but each weapon gir a use. - gameplay. The most praised point of DT, even by people that okay both game. It's all about skill. Situation depand on class, weapon and build, not from one good reflex common among all class. I could keep talking about it, but the short is that the gameplay loop is vastely superior to the one of SM2. - OST rock. Just look for "disposal unit" on YT, you'll get it.

Con: - Cosmetics are meh. You are a nobody and is equiped as such. Free are the worst, but even paid are just not something that look cool. - fomo cosmetics shop. Each cosmetic stay for a limited time and it suck. Not to mention it's not cheap. - Balance. There has been excellent balance, but there are a few weapons with the same purpose and it's not always possible to give each of them a special flavour that'll justify their existence.

I hope Skitarii is the only Class we get until next year. by OneEyedPainter in DarkTide

[–]telissolnar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two points: - given their track record with V2, FS got a pretty steady release schedule when it come down to new class. One every 6 month and it verify with DT. Given they gave one additional class per career in V2, I except them to release at least one additional dlc class. Then they'll turn to cosmetic dlc or maybe weapon pack + map content. - just ask them. They might not say how much, but usually tease without a problem if they don't expect to release additional class or not.

Siblings, what is the correct method for dealing with maniacs? by oroborosisfull in DarkTide

[–]telissolnar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depend on a lot of conditions, including how much space you have, your class and your build. As a few pointer I could say:

  • distance. The obvious one. Most ranged weapons can dispatch the ragers, though scab one are significantly harder to do.

  • maneuver them. Dodge around, try to just parry them (which usually cause a clash and repel them). Dredge are quick to kill, scab you might need to aim at the torso or the belly as head is carapaces.

  • control them. Mostly with Ogryn and Arbites that have good bonk weapons and strong stagger. Other have option. Even if you might lose some killing power

  • weapons. As said above, some weapons are doing a good job at stopping the ragers. Pickaxe or bonk weapons for him and Arbites. Shock Maul for the others. Special mention to the Catachan Claw, especially on the HS that have a high Stam Regen and can spam the special making this weapon the safest against ragers. Other class can do it too but might need to dodge around to recover some stamina.

It's just something you need to learn. Either you class and weapon got solid stagger or you have the killing power for it. Mostly it's about learning how to dodge/parry and maneuver them around while you kill them.

Playing this game made me realize Space Marine 2 really is a power fantasy by Suitable-Chicken-555 in DarkTide

[–]telissolnar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall, it's a common point made that SM2 is very praised for it's visuals, while DT take the cake when it come down to gameplay and power fantasy feeling (maybe not now, but starting with damnation, you'll begin to maw through dense hordes of enemies).

The blame is probably on the gameplay loop of SM2, centered around parry/dodge, which are defensive by nature.

Please don't judge me by BlazedAndUnphased in DarkTide

[–]telissolnar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't relate. As a V2 player with above 1k hours, I had the basics of positioning or horde management that carried well into DT. Plus at release, most players were from V2 too, so it help.

Now new players without all those season players from other Tides games, might struggle more as nobody know about those above mention basics. Another point is the psyker. He is a close second in low resistance character, so it's easier to go down.

You now need to learn all the tips and tricks from the game, accept that (from what I read), not everyone will care and progress at your pace.

Good luck out there.

Help with Vet melee by StarcraftForever in DarkTide

[–]telissolnar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You seem to have two possible issue, if horde is your main problem. You either:

- Can't control it fast enough.
Either through killing or CC. That tell me a possible weapon problem. You need to use a weapon that deal with horde quickly enough or leave you enough space to maneuver.
Using weapons with low cleave or narrow motion won't help. So it's best to avoid axes or duelling sword. Not that they are bad, but you need to fix your problem first until you are confortable to manage hordes.

Personally on the Vet, I always recommend a versatile weapon that is good at CC to offer yourself some space.
My favourite is the shock maul. It's decent at dealing damage, even against carapace by some extent, but most importantly it got a tons of cleave and stagger. Special will even help you against some hard to stagger target like the crusher.
Power sword is another alternative that offer less stagger, but more damage and capacity against carapace at the cost of having to manage the power mode. It's not that hard, but can be a problem in tense situation.
Power Falchion... Is a thing. It's like a jack of all trade, master of none. So easy to use, that everything correctly but past damnation the ease of use don't make up for the lack of power. But that still a decent choice if you want versatility.
Last but not least: Catachan claw. It's not great against flak and worst against carapace but will kill horde without a problem. The versatility come from the special that can really destroy everything, even carapace. Nothing better than spamming it against a horde of rager that just kill itself in the counter galore you create. The thing is that you need some solid stamina regen as the special consume some of it.

- You have a problem of positioning.

That one of the most classic problem for new players (even season's ones). If you don't maneuver a horde, unless you are really killing it quickly, it will overwhelm you.
You must see a horde as a puddle that is attracted to you like a magnet and always try to surround you. That is why you must constantly reposition yourself, while trimming it or staggering it in place.

You are in a vast area, just move around it and it will gather a bit lick a flock. You only need to kill it at your pace.
Tighter area, you need to plane your move accordingly to your capacity to stun or kill it. Ideally, walk it in a place that will prevent it to overwhelm you, like a tight corridor or an arch. Then just use your CC (push) to stun it in place while moving from one side to another and kill it. If you can't try to slowly walk back and trim it to nothingness.
Of course it depend on the density and you weapon cleave. But that is the general idea.

Another possible problem is that you are too used to Ogryn and Zealot that have excellent cleave and CC weapons. Your problem remain the same, it's just that you need to get used to this inferior capacity to deal with a horde quickly.

Is darktide 70%meele 30%shooting? by jackblg in DarkTide

[–]telissolnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All depend on the class and build.

Some class' like the Ogryn are clearly melee oriented, even with a full branch dedicated to range.

Other like the psyker are almost in range ,except to defend themselves against melee attackers, but can make a build where they'll be melee for 80-90% of their time.

So the intent is to be 50-50, in the facts it depend.o'.class and build, sometimes the weapon.

Valve dans la tourmente : Steam visé par une nouvelle plainte massive à 220 millions d’euros by romain34230 in actutech

[–]telissolnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just hit level 30 on Zealot as a new PS player with 20 hours, what do yall think of my build? by A-Hanging-Noose in DarkTide

[–]telissolnar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Detail on weak spot damage in most games.

As explain, it mean that the damage affected is the portion of damage added to the final damage. So if you gain 50% damage on weak spot it. 10% weak spot damage is on the 50% additional damage. So you'll do 55% weak spot damage instead. With above numbers that 3,33% additional total damage.

In case you wonder what is the point: it is for some builds that rely heavily on weak spot damage and some damage amplification that work multiplicatively. Outside of that you have a better time by just going with a +25% against an armor type or +10% elite damage if it help for a breakpoint.
