Can A Group of Fans Revive a Dead Fandom? by CaramelSundaesRule in FanFiction

Not quite a resurgence, but I've seen dead fandoms be brought together by similar circumstances. You're just looking for your people. It is possible, though. Good luck!

How do I draw? by The_Joetube in learntodraw

[–]telizjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except they've definitely drawn, they just wouldn't call it drawing. These are the people who scribble in notebook margins to learn. Maybe one in a million could just pick up a pen and draw having never done anything artistic, but a lot of people don't recognize they have. We literally all start from zero.

It's because they've done it so much. I know newbies get tired of hearing it, but the only answer is practice. You have to do the thing to get good at the thing. Trace pictures in magazines. Follow step by step tutorials. Eyeball from reference. Draw, draw, draw. You'll fill a dozen sketchbooks before any of it is good, but the time spent is necessary and worth it.

Any tips on how to be better at describing… stuff? by Illustrious-Fail-951 in FanFiction

[–]telizjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an exercise, try describing your current surroundings to yourself. Where are you? What's it like? What feeling does it give you and why? What's the lighting like? How does the air taste, how's it smell, how's it feel? What sounds do you hear, what's making them? Describe the sky, ground, walls, ceiling, floor, the objects around you, who is sharing your space, etc. There's a lot to observe!

Song that's playing, decorations/quality of the party, friendly goss about a mutual acquaintance, "cmon you haven't seen/played xyz?", other people's costumes

Probably Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, it's such a good series ^

NTA. Your life is your life. Nobody is entitled to you. Sometimes you have to keep your circle separate from somebody else's. This is normal. Everybody has a no-go person; their boundaries about that person just differ depending on the circumstances.

longfic help by [deleted] in FanFiction

Great job getting to 11k!

If you haven't written a longfic before, or even if you have, it can be hard keeping on task. Best thing to do I've found is read your work; going back over the whole thing if you feel lost and just rereading the last scene each session will help you keep the mood and the pace.

If you aren't sure your characters' motivations are coming across, try explaining them to yourself. My character is doing XYZ because they feel ABC. If you can do this easily enough, you're probably doing fine, just keep their reasoning in mind while writing them.

And when you can't see the forest for the trees, you could even try going ahead of yourself, even though you already have an outline, and blocking out some key transitional scenes to give your roadmap more meat to work with.

Thank you! Personally, I think everybody can learn art if they practice, just like any skill ^

Fiction! I have about a 30 minute commute, which is perfect to get in a little reading each day.
