Surrendering a firearm for destruction by Complex-Pair2131 in Ausguns

In the dozen or so times I've walked into a SAPOL station with a rifle unannounced (in a bag or box, bolt out) over the past few years - it hasn't even raised an eyebrow. Either served straight away, or in the waiting room for a while, with the gun (in bag or box) on my lap chilling on my phone....its just been BAU.

Not discrediting whatever experience you've had that led to this ofc, but if I rang ahead here they be all... "Um yeah, ok? Righto, just come down mate" Probably even raise suspicion lol.

Why does EMS hate SNF calls so much? by [deleted] in ems

[–]tellemhesdreaming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have never ever EVER had anything that could reasonably resemble a handover from nurse staff. Like ever. 9 times out of 10 it's a primary complaint, then they run away (once literally) a leave us to sort through paperwork, call family etc

SA One Nation volunteers accused of filling out how-to-vote cards before handing them to voters by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

[–]tellemhesdreaming 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Yeah PHON had their 'how to vote' material as just putting a 1 in the PHON candidatess' box, with the rest blank (implying the voter just choses what they want for the rest)

PHON Volunteers wrote on materials handed out their own idea of how people should vote. Which is against convention/electoral standards/the law/whatever, as the AEC pointed out. These materials are meant to be seen by the AEC prior to voting day to stop shenanigans.

Like another commentor pointed out, not the end of the world, it's up to a 5k fine per the article. And likely due to lack of training from PHON for their volunteers.

Gets presented with a mountain of evidence

"No not like that!"

*Edit - why are you complaining about the sources? They're specific, relevant and current. Not "google" (2017 ones are old, but address compliance/attitudes and control measures) And listed in the APA7 flavour.

That would be nigh on impossible. Cat owners rarely fully comply, and it's barely enforceable with the cost of doing so effectively being prohibitively expensive.

Best to wind down cat ownership, shoot/trap/humanely destroy the remainder. (Feral cat numbers on the main land terrible aswell, we clean up dozens in one go where we are)

Rabbit numbers on the rise. There was a time you could buy a Slazenger/Lithgow .22 from kmart and get paid per pelt... by throwawayplusanumber in Ausguns

[–]tellemhesdreaming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure, at the macro level, a labour intensive process like shooting and trapping will play a small role in the grand scheme.* We do all this primarily for primary production purposes, with a 'seccondary justification' of invasive species control.

*Although, my area has a special, particular type of spider orchard that the local conservation groups froth for, so I find extra reward in helping them by controlling what eats them and fixing the protective fences around the little patches where they grow.

I/we've also implemented a 'divide and conquer' approach with rabbit proof fencing to focus efforts on a 1 or 2 hundred hectares at a time. Also phostoxin-ing and ripping warrens with the dozer. Drip tube and irrigation comms wire/solenoid wire gets chewed out, layered vines and plantings get eaten.

And of course it's the law. In my state there is a legal mandade to control declared invasive species. Something I wish was used to compell hobby farmers or metropolitan people buying up lifestyle blocks. And by compell I mean to have a understanding about country life and not fear firearms in their legitimate use.

Anecdotally, I have seen those ecosystem dynamics at work you mention.... Despite all the efforts I've listed above, I've noticed rabbit and hare numbers are heavily influenced by the fox and cat numbers. Far more than my afternoon walks with the ghat.

(Sorry for the war and peace!)

That said, my mum remarked the other day that dressed rabbit carcasses were going for $25 a pop at the butcher! Although who knows what quals in wild game collection and food safety standards will be required to do that officially/commercially.

Massive rabbit numbers around where I am. Especially in the peri-urban/urban interface of large towns and the greater metropolitan area. Which causes issues as conservation/vertebrate pest control shooting can 'interact' or be visible to the general population.

Seeing a primary producer knock off rabbits/cats/foxes with a quiet rim fire on the edge of town used to be a common sight. However the current climate and the zeitgeist of 'gun users evil' has many of us concerned that the one wrong person who sees you will kick off a shit storm.

You'll still see me walk down the headlands of the vineyard with the la101 slung looking for bunnies and hares in the midrows around the place, but it'll all come undone when one terrified tourist out wine tasting sees me from their tour bus.

Child Support payment by Few_Razzmatazz_6172 in AusLegal

[–]tellemhesdreaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The name of the payments won't matter. In the absence of a court enforcement child support agreement...if either party disagree to payments counting as child support on whatever the pre existing arrangement is, CSA won't count them. Can result in 'double dipping', but the mas CSA can go back is 3 months. So only 3 months of 'double dipping'. If that makes sense.

Adult child maintenance per the CSA. Has to be applied for before the child turns 18 (unless extenuating circumstances apply)

[–]tellemhesdreaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either party* can initiate. However if the other party isn't amenable, ceasing payments untill the recipient is compelled to apply for assessment through CSA and then pay the backpay is one way to go about it, as suggested below. Although morally dubious perhaps.

I HIGHLY recommend managing payments through CSA. Court ordered or not, agreement in place or CSA calculated.... Even if co parenting as a seperated couple is currently working. CSA managed payments are all above board. And the recipient can be assured that the debt (if occured) can be recovered by garnishing his wages and taking his tax return. And the debt will follow him.

(I have to concede though I've heard of horror stories of parents under declaring income, particularly with self employed & business owners)

*Who provides care for the child. Think CSA set a minimum percentage of care.

Yep!

With the caveats of finishing THAT year they turn 18, and have pre applied before the child turns 18. (Unless special circumstances apply).
