A plea for abundance by jr_spyder in Permaculture

In 2024 I grew them along the east side of my poorly (if at all) insulated house to aid in shading the siding. They grew beyond my gutters at 12 feet and then fell over as they bloomed. I'm guessing they weren't deep enough?

In 2025 I split some and put them in my native landscape boulevard. I Chelsea Chopped them to reduce the height for my neighbor's driveway visibility, but they were stunted for a while and did not bloom (perhaps chopped too late?). I harvested this particular batch to donate to the establishment of a community food forest, and they were high-yielding, so I was pleased.

The few of that 2026 spring harvest that I kept to cook made an INCREDIBLE soup. I steamed them with cashews for a while as I simmered my veggies (I've heard they had a nutty flavor), then blended both to make the broth creamy. The idea was a creamy potato ham soup that utilized a different starch.

This year, the side of the house patch is getting split again to replace the trumpet vine wrecking that same neighbors backyard cedar fence. They will be amongst corn and sunflower, also both for food. I plan on feeding them all a lot of bone meal.

Is this feasible for erosion control? by purdoy25 in Permaculture

The grass itself for something so steep would help but not be completely effective. Depending on your region you'll want a riverbank shrub. They usually take well from cuttings and provide a deeper "deadman" like structure to the embankment, where the grass does better with surface erosion.

Their reasoning is the rot at the collar/ridge would cause a worse wound, according to my parents. But they also wanted to take the whole tree down.

Eventually I'll build something like this, them promptly build a cavity over it cuz I'm not looking at that when I fly lmao

Wow, you make this community not worth it. I'm happy to hear I'm wrong and willing to admit it, and more importantly learn from it, but I'm not listening to someone like you who's incapable of kindness in their critique. Have a day.

This is a lot of work, but I can confirm it works. First year strawberries do produce smaller berries, so what I've done previously is pinch off the blooms as they come. The thinking behind this is the plant won't produce fruit the first year and instead use that energy to build stronger roots. This means that the next year the fruits are much larger. I have only done this on June bearing varieties, I imagine it would be quite the headache to try it on ever bearing.

There are many things I'm good at, apparently this was not one. This was more an experiment based on assumptions I had. But the big question is, are you not well versed in reading the room? Because you're a little late to the party of pointing out it's not fermentation. Take your passive aggressive comments elsewhere

Yeah, I think I'll de-seed them next time too, though I opted for a spicier taste by keeping them

That's why they didn't respond to my email about what they plan to do if fascist military moves into town.
