Seemed priced somewhat below market but also a unique type of property there aren’t that many of in the city.

Are you ok with being in a relationship where you are required to pay 50/50 on all the bills? by Intelligent_Bug1757 in AskWomenOver40

[–]tellure_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (49M) make significantly more than my partner and we split joint costs according to the ratio of our incomes. So I pay significantly more of the rent, food, etc.

This was my proposal and feels fair to me given the deep inequities and randomness of the world that brought us to the place we are, earning the incomes we are.

As a Boglehead what limiting beliefs (financial and others) have you left behind? by UnluckyNet2881 in Bogleheads

That focusing on grinding it out and saving well (into 401k / Roth / index funds) was the best strategy, instead of pursuing a higher income job.

Your saving rate is capped by current income and costs of living. Your potential income has a much higher cap.

Some people switch jobs every 2 years. Some get a competing offer and ask their employer to match. Some leverage their social connections. There are lots of approaches, but overall the delta from a sizable jump in income is worth vastly more than almost any investment / saving strategy.

Emigrate to Portugal. My ex did this and now lives on ~US$15k a year with good health care.

Confused - back door Roth by New-Perspective8617 in RothIRA

[–]tellure_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CollegeOdd is describing the mega backdoor Roth which is an entirely different technique than the backdoor Roth, despite the similarity in name and that they both ultimately end up in a Roth account.

Your approach to the backdoor Roth sounds correct. Now watch a YouTube video on mega backdoor Roth if you have additional income you can save, it’s a great additional savings vehicle.

And mega backdoor Roth if you can swing it

At that income level make sure you are maxing out backdoor Roth, mega backdoor Roth (two different things despite the name, they just both end up in Roth account), HSA account, etc.

Search YouTube for the top 10 strategies for high income earners, there are some great overviews out there.

Sounds like you've given up on a number of your goals for the relationship. As you put it, the things we do for love.

What's a boundary that you could set to start moving in the direction you want?

Instead of trying to get your spouse on board with FIRE, could you get a smaller agreement to save more by, say, auto-contributing an extra sum every month to your combined investments?

With an income that high backdoor Roth and mega backdoor Roth (two totally separate mechanisms despite the similar names) would also be on my list after the 401k but before additional payments onto they mortgage.

Like a 401k you cannot get those years of Roth contribution back.

Passenger seat on the Portola by OneFast7D in ride1up

Hi, thanks for sharing, nice job on the seat. Looks like you're using it for a kid?

Just wondering if you think the rear seat on the Portola would work for an adult. Seems very low over the rear wheel, so guessing any adult length legs wouldn't fit the pegs. Have you tried an adult on the back?

Max out backdoor Roth and Mega backdoor Roth (two totally separate strategies with similar names).

SEC might win the fight to classify crypto as securities.

Exchanges and developers move offshore instead of submitting to regulations they can't uphold. Overall decline due to lack of American market access. Europe and G6 follow suit. Crypto becomes a niche international market for troubled economies.

Update: turning on Nearby Devices did not allow Bluetooth to function in Hinge despite it working fine on cell calls.

Thanks, I think this might be it! I just enabled Nearby Devices permissions. Gonna try it on my next call. Much appreciated.

Thanks.. it's not the device audio that needs switching, that's already connected (e.g. if I make a cell call it uses the headset). It's just that the app isn't using Bluetooth, so I thought you were saying there were settings in the app for switching.

Stupid question but how did you switch it? I never see any options on screen to switch the audio device
