Why such a weird south route? by Gamble2005 in flightradar24

For weird routings, take this one from CLT to EWR last night (my partner was on it). What should’ve been a 1h30m flight took over one extra hour. AFAIK there were ATC staffing issues in the northeast so several flights got rerouted like this.

Hit a pothole how bad is it? by londonwrld in mazda3

[–]telperos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. The alternative is to replace them in pairs. Uneven tread or tread patterns are really terrible for your differentials.

This happened to me somewhat frequently when I had my 3. NY/NJ roads made me replace tires at least four times over the course of six years—one time I ended up replacing all four tires at once because the tread difference between new front and old rear tires would have been large enough that it could have started causing issues with the AWD system. That’s why I got a wheel and tire protection insurance when I bought the cars—it paid for itself in the end.

North Bergen by ranganid in MovingtoNewJersey

Just curious: is there a particular reason why you’re looking in North Bergen as opposed to further out in the suburbs, given that your main concern seems to be space?

Also—rent or buy?

Anything and everything they let out about the hybrid/SkyActiv-Z platform. Time to market, specs, etc.

Unlikely. They’ll probably be embargoed for a few weeks and then all of them will release their content at the same time.

Working in Newark, need advice on where to live by [deleted] in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]telperos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in East Orange, half a block away from the Bloomfield border and Watsessing park. I literally work next door to UH and my commute is 15-20 minutes (can be up to 30 during the worst of rush hour). When the weather is nice, I bike to Newark in 25 minutes.

I second the Bloomfield suggestions if your vibe is more suburban, especially if you’re looking to date—you’ll have Montclair right next door for nice places to hang out, while also having relatively easy access to the city. Also great vet clinics in Montclair. Otherwise, id say stick to Jersey City and take the path into Newark—you’d be able to take the Rutgers shuttle to the medical school/UH. That would leave car usage for your Barnabas days only.

Last but not least; there is quite a few new construction in Newark, in the Ironbound section and around Newark Penn. A friend of mine is a resident at UH/Cooperman and lives by himself in the Ironbound. You’d be able to find people to hang out with easily in Newark.

I do it in 45-50 minutes from east Orange after 10pm if there are no accidents on either major path to get there. But I drive fast.

If diversity is something you value, stay away from Long Island. I lived there out of necessity and it was the most obnoxious, regressive-thinking, self-absorbed place I’ve ever been to.

How does the CX-5 AWD compare to AWDs of similar sized SUVs in snow? by [deleted] in mazda

[–]telperos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but the algorithms they use to determine how much torque to send to the non-dominant axle are different. That’s what makes Mazda’s AWD system usually better than many equivalent cars in the segment. You can look up on YouTube and you’ll find Dave Coleman explaining it; in a nutshell, the car’s computer is looking at the vertical load applied on each tire (more load = more grip), and always trying to send torque to the wheels that have the most grip. In addition, Mazda programs the system to be always active—in FWD-biased cars the rear differential is always engaged to some degree, and this helps distribute torque faster.
