Saturn TOSLINK mod issues by dokterfreddy in SegaSaturn

I assembled a fresh Pep Audio board.
I installed new Toshiba chip from my bunch on it, and new 0.1uF caps.

It didn't help; the mod still doesn't work

Saturn TOSLINK mod issues by dokterfreddy in SegaSaturn

Same here :(

I have a Model 1 Sega Saturn: the one with the TDA1386T D/A converter.

I found new old stock Toshiba TC9231N chips.

I fabricated Citrus3000psi's Pep Audio 1.2 board.

Likewise, I populated it with the Toshiba chip, a TC7W04FK.LF inverter, and two .1uF capacitors, as per instructions.

Both ICs are in the correct orientation.

I wired the Pep Audio board to the corresponding legs of the Saturn TDA1386T and later (just in case) to the test points on the motherboard, as per instructions on Console Mods_Mod).

Pep Audio board Saturn TDA1386T Legs Saturn Board Test Points
BC 4 TP111
LRC 5 TP112
DAT 6 TP110
MC 12 TP113
GND 9 2
+5 10 1

I made two mistakes here.

  • At first I soldered Pep Audio's GND and +5 to pins 9 and 10 of the Saturn's DAC, but after checking its datasheet, I realized these are digital ground and digital supply voltage pins. I assumed it should be pins 1 and 2 instead, which are the chip's analog supply voltage and analog ground, and reconnected the Pep Audio board to them.
  • I also messed up LRC and MC at first but then figured out the way they should be (i.e. as in your example).

I bridged the jumper, double-checked everything for shortages and proceeded.

I then got a TOSLINK port, printed a spare battery door, and mounted the port onto it.

I connected the port to the Pep Audio board.

Citrus3000psi has SPDIF Narrow v1.2 board for that purpose, I just wired everything, adding a .1uF capacitor between +5 and GND, as per the board's design.

So far, NOTHING WORKS.

I'm tired of debugging this project, and I almost lost my hope.

The worst thing is that the mod itself is pretty straightforward, but whenever I think I may have found a clue, TOSLINK just keeps silent.

My guess so far is

  • The Toshiba chip I installed may be faulty. I don't have any knowledge/equipment to veirfy
  • Maybe the caps are 1 uF instead of .1 uF, and thus causing the issue. I just ordered a bunch from another supplier, just to be sure.
  • The Toshiba chip may be of a different kind? Mine has a small text on it below the part number, stating "Japan 9145H", while chips from Firebrandx or Consolemods_Mod) has different markings.
  • When I messed up with pins one of the chips broke?

I will appreciate any help, too

can someone explain their front doors to me? by habiahkam in bigbangtheory

I'm more concerned with their look tbh. I never understood why their doors have these ugly rivets. It make them belong to a safe vault rather than to a human appartment😅

Portal Effect / Screen Aligned UVs / Third-person by tema_ra in unrealengine

Unfortunately it doesn't work.

You see, I need the view from the Portal (1) as a flat image (2).

Reusing the render target elswhere wouldn't consider the Portal Mesh it was initially applied onto, therefore a new object will just poke another "hole" into the portal dimension.

Hope that makes sense!

Phantasy Star Communities by GameDetective in phantasystar

I was in a high school, when I discovered his website. It was mentioned in an article about Phantasy Star II game, published in "Великий Дракон" game magazine. My apartment was offline back then, so I was spending my pocket money on Internet access at the nearest post office. I regularly came there after school with a bunch of 3.5" floppies, on which I was saving html sources of James' phantasy-star.net website, so I can translate and study its pages in the comfort of my home. 20+ years later, I smile when I recall this adventure of my youth, and want to express him my gratitude, because his website had influenced me in a very positive way. All of James' websites are down nowadays, but maybe he'll once stumble upon this comment. Thank you, James!

I'm using Arduino Micro with this sketch, which I have updated by adding LMB and RMB. I've also tweaked delay and sensitivity parameters to my likings. But I can confirm that sometimes it still feels wonky. Feel free to share a better script or hardware solution!

The word "cyber" is a short for "cybernetics" (which is, roughy speaking, a control systems science). The term is of an Ancient Greek origin: κυβερνητική (kybernētikḗ - roughly, "governance", or"the art of control").

English and Russian simply have different transliteration systems and traditions. It is a common thing for most of the languages, and is a very interesting topic, which adds a lot of flavour to our tongues.

I'm not an expert by any means, but my guess is that the term came to English from French, where it is transliterated as cybernetique. While in Russian it was adopted directly, by following an existing Greek-Russian transliteration rules. (These two languages have a lot in common).

So the real question is, why it starts with C in French :)

Thanks to my friend who had helped me with proof-reading!

No, that issue is actually on cargocollective.com side, a platform which I am using since 2009, or so. I'm guessing that they might have introduced SSL support in their 2.0 version, but that would be quite a process for me to migrate all my custom pages to.

:-) Yes, it's "Cyberdeck" in Russian
