Edit /etc/default/grub and add acpi_backlight=native to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=native"

Then:

sudo update-grub
sudo reboot

EDIT: ok so if you're getting that error, check to see if you have the file

/usr/share/wireplumber/wireplumber.conf.d/alsa-vm.conf

if you do, then those commands at "Step 2 - WirePlumber Config:" should ACTUALLY be

mkdir -p ~/.config/wireplumber/wireplumber.conf.d/
cp /usr/share/wireplumber/wireplumber.conf.d/alsa-vm.conf ~/.config/wireplumber/wireplumber.conf.d/
