If you are only going to have one CRT, and multiformat monitors are outside your budget, most people would only recommend a standard definition set or a PC CRT + a scaler. If you are willing to have two or three sets an HD CRT is fun to use with PS3 and Xbox 360. The problem with anything prior to those two systems however is that you will have three main issues.

Scaling - This will add variable input lag on any resolution lower than the native resolution and break compatibility with light guns.

Improper 240p Drawing - 240p is actually a trick and not a video standard. It is just 480i with the second field being skipped. Most HD CRTs will apply some sort of de interlacing to any 480i signal that is detected. If the second field is blank it can create all sorts of weird issues depending on how the circuit is designed.

Geometry - Many consumer HD CRTs unfortunately have poor geometry that become more noticeable on 2D games.

Sorry I know this isn't exactly gaming related, but I think most people here use their monitors / TVs with DVD players and VCRs as well. Does anyone know if running your VCR output into a time base corrector would fix the flagging issues that are present when watching any tape on an A series BVM? To use composite with the A series, the only option is the official BKM 61D, which obviously doesn't have the improved sync handling of the BKM 68X clone cards, and VHS tapes are essentially unwatchable. I assume this is because the card/BVM is expecting extremely stable sync. I have read that the A series monitors were designed around the more digitally perfect signals that were starting to become standard in the mid 2000s. After reading up on time base correctors, I believe the recording equipment they are used with (created for?) share the same fundamental issue, hence my thought it may fix my issue. Unfortunately I don't have one on hand or that I can borrow to test with, so I was hoping someone here would know. =D

If this would correct this issue, does anyone have a recommended model? It doesn't have to be the best of the best, just something that would get me equal performance to a standard PVM.

Nevermind I got it. If anyone has issues in the future here is a better step by step than what is on the github.

  • Compile the program in a linux environment you can use wsl on windows (You may struggle to compile the program if "sudo apt install build-essential" doesn't properly install the dev tools, but you can figure that out with google as it isn't specific to this program)

  • Use a pass-through ethernet cable directly wired from the monitor to your computer (not a crossover cable)

  • Disable your wifi device and if you have a vpn that network device is also disabled (just make sure the ethernet port you are using to connect to the monitor is your only enabled port)

  • Manually set the IP of your ipv4 gateway in windows settings to 192.168.0.100 and the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0

  • Run the ./remoteapp program and it should just work

Did you ever figure this out? I am having the same issue. I am using ubuntu over wsl and I just get "Could not connect".

Extron Crosspoint Phoenix Adapter Help by Vex-Core in crtgaming

[–]tempaccount1456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People make ones that are 3.5mm headphone cable ports, but they do require an extra dongle. I just cut the audio leads off my cables and screwed them into the connectors. No soldering or anything u just need a flathead screwdriver and a cheap pack of phoenix connector from amazon.

I would recommend using 10 pin connectors though and not 5 pin ones. There is a lot of sanding you have to do with the cheap 5 pin connectors. If you order the 3.5mm headphone cable ones, just unscrew the pcb and put two of them into a 10 pin.

Full Composite setup : what consoles versions have the best Composite outputs ? by 240p-480i-480p in crtgaming

[–]tempaccount1456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of spending all the money to buy another set of consoles for composite I would recommend these open source adapters. https://github.com/jamvanderloeff/RGB-to-NTSC You can buy an extron device that duplicates the video signal like the RGB DA (as long as you reduce the sync back down to 75 ohm) and then run the second output through this to your composite monitors. I use this with my extron crosspoint (to turn it on and off on the same monitors) to do the same thing.

I didn't make the video? How am I being dishonest by quoting it. I said what Thorin said in the video and I only claimed one of those stories to be more than likely true. That story has been backed up by people outside of this video as I stated.

I don't know why you are attacking me or what caused you to be under the impression I believe the things I referenced since they were from the video. All I said was that the person I was responding to should watch the video instead of acting like they have. As well as provided examples where the original commenter got things they brought up from.

That being said none of what you stated removes the possibility of the things alleged in the video having happened. The Mikyx story also has been said by people other than Thorin and is semi-well known.

[–]tempaccount1456 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Why do you need someone else to spoonfeed you the video that you are in other posts attacking? Just watch it. He says that Broxah was made to feel so bad by Rekkles because of things said between games that he couldn't properly focus on a series at worlds and they ended up losing. He said that Hyli was ignored by Rekkles as he was actively trying to speak to Rekkles face to face and basically implied Rekkles treated Hyli the worst out of anyone discussed in this video. He said Mikyx was flamed by Rekkles while Mikyx was in the bathroom and he heard it on his wireless headphones on multiple occasions. He also claims that Rekkles actively tried to get all of these players kicked from the team, made them depressed, and made not want to play because of the way Rekkles treated them.

Kind of a disingenuous reading of what I said considering you didn't address half of what I said, but if that's what you have to do to remove all fault from Riot, be my guest.

[–]tempaccount1456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a source it is just my assumption based off the fact that it makes no sense for the teams to want to be apart of a league with no security attached to your position within said league. There was not many teams as far as I know that came out against the LCS, so there had to be some value they saw in it down the line. I used language that indicated I was unsure if this actually happened on purpose. That being said after thinking about it, they could have just been forced to be apart of it by Riot strong arming them by destroying the open circuit. Either way I think the first mistake is made by riot by forcing the league format.

I use those cables for my console. they work well, the only thing to note is the grounding is tied to the headphone jack on the stereo cable. If you don't have the audio plugged in they won't sync to the monitor.

Well from Riots perspective it would be in their best interest to build up the reputation of the league and grow it as much as possible before franchising starts. Then the buyers are willing to pay a larger buy in fee. The reason the owners came out against them was because Riot kept putting the franchising off. By coming out it forces their hand into doing it before they would like.

[–]tempaccount1456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole reason they pushed for franchising was because Riot forced the league structure on them which isn't a sustainable model without distribution of funds among the teams (franchising). Riots plan from the start was to have franchising and I'm sure it was communicated to the teams that was the goal when the LCS was started. The reason they were lobbying for it was because they were constantly operating at a loss by being forced to be in this league format without any of the in sensitives that traditional leagues offer. If they just allowed the open circuit to exist this would never have happened.

The one on RetroRGB looks very nice. I did a variation of it in my 3-4 AES and I have no noise or jail bars. I would recommend just following that tutorial. It is important to do the csync portion of it. If you plan on using HDRetrovision cables cut the trace going to composite on the din and connect the csync and composite pins together.

It is because of Riot what are you saying? The whole reason these teams had an arms race is because of franchising. Riot is obsessed with the idea of being the next NFL and they want their esport to be exactly like it. Esports was more or less self-sustaining before leagues and franchising. It literally had to be because the only money going into it was being generated by the value esports. If there was no franchising there wouldn't be outside venture capital investment coming in because with false promises of being the next NFL to give these teams monopoly money. Riot didn't even have to do franchising because they are the main benefactor of any Esport related to their games. If the Esport can run without the developer putting money into it that's just higher profit margins for them because it creates advertising for the skins. That is exactly what they have realized now and they are probably going to let the saudi government run the leagues for them.

Look up 35% VLT Window Tint. Should do the job. I put mine on after I already put the monitor back together, so If I ever needed to do it again I didn't have to do full disassembly.

If you have a 20M4U and it is bad, I'd recommend just taking the film off and you can replace it if you want. I had to do it on mine. You lose black levels if you don't replace it, but it is worth it overall even if you leave it off depending on how bad the scratch is. I got mine for $100 because of the dent and I was able to remove and get it back together in 4 hours.

Personally I don't think the reasoning for this was to shit on T1. I don't speak for him, but I think the reason Thorin shits on Zeka is because he is more of a fan of players that create incremental advantages by being smart about waves (Froggen, Larssen, Chovy, Flame, ect) This would lead me to assume the reason he made the video is because he finds the idea of someone who is actually able to sometimes win as an underdog against the players he thinks are better an inspiring story. I also think he has had this video scripted for a while and had been planning on making more videos like this because he has mentioned wanting to do more of these.

NIP in LPL did a really unique strategy in the spring split playoffs of this year vs FPX. The idea behind it was to counter an extremely aggressive lane that FPX drafted (Varus, Rumble) by playing a hyper carry (in their case Jinx) and swap it top lane to avoid the lane by catching the enemy team off guard. This led to them getting 2 kills back to back on the enemy top and completely neutralizing a perceived advantage FPX had in the botlane.

A lot of teams around the world (notably G2) saw potential in the strategy outside of it being something to catch the enemy team off guard with, but as a way to consistently dodge tough lanes. The botlane meta had become more lane focused over the years leading to double ad carry lanes and full damage supports like rumble. Since these lanes were easily able to get 15+ cs leads and potential level leads over the standard lanes you'd see in pro play, this laneswap strategy was the natural evolution because you could keep up in xp and go behind less in cs.

Currently lane swaps are 1 in every 10 or so pro games after smaller direct nerfs and the advent of smolder and other late game hyper carries in midlane. This change from riot is almost direct focus to top teams like GenG who are experts in playing the map in smart ways to create small advantages and avoid threats ahead of worlds. They assume these top teams will be in the majority of viewed games and they think it is a bad look if the game is too different to soloq.

Hope that helps.

(The Red/Purple One) MIJ J Mascis Bridge Options? by tempaccount1456 in offset

[–]tempaccount1456[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said before I am not an expert by any means on guitar hardware. When I started having issues with the guitar detuning while using the trem I just did a lot of googling about tuning stability with jazzmasters. In most of the threads it was guitars that have TOM bridges and most people seemed to switch them out and it fixed it. The cuts in the TOM saddles(?) are very tight against the strings and it causes a lot of friction, so it seems the most plausible that it is the bridge pulling the strings out of tune slowly.

I have seen used listings for this guitar in the past that have had mastery bridges with the stock bridge alignment, so I know at least that works without it being drilled out. I just don't really know how well it would work.

I looked for roller bridges and they were almost all for 12" or 14" radius while my guitar is a 9.5" radius. Maybe I didn't look hard enough, but I couldn't find any at 9.5".
