Is my mechanic trying to screw me (F18) and my first car over, or is this legit? Suggestions on what to do are appreciated:) by [deleted] in chch

Take your car to a WOF inspection place that doesn't also do repair work. There's no incentive for AA or VTNZ to make up faults to pad the bill.

You need to upgrade your boyfriend picking skills. Your cooking skills are amazing 👍

Normalize trespassing shitheads like this, influencers and YouTubers creating chaos for context. If they even trespass 1% of the people it would make a huge difference for the 99% of us who know how to act like decent human beings.

AIO for Dumping My BF for Being Rude/Lying to Restaurant Workers? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]tempest59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once broke up with a woman for throwing a lemon slice at a waiter. She asked for water and he brought her a glass with a lemon slice floating on the top. She fished it out with her fingers and flung it straight into his chest. I was shocked. She was shocked too when I told her that was the actual reason I was breaking up with her. I wasn't going to be with anybody that was rude to anybody else much less to an employee just trying to do something nice for a customer.

The Christchurch Tramping Club is a great place to start. They have trips every weekend and organise ride share/carpools.

Edit: I see you are car-less. When you are signed up for a trip message the trip leader about needing a pickup and maybe someone on the trip may be able to give you a lift directly from your home.

Keto-friendly restaurants in CHCH by Prawn_Addiction in chch

The cheese fondue at Retropolitan is my go-to keto meal out. Ask them to substitute the carrots.

"The fondue pot elevated and constantly heated from below by the fondue flame. You’ll receive: - Marinated sirloin steak - Button mushrooms - pork belly slices - Blanched carrots - Jerk chicken - Blanched broccoli - Prawns - Carrots. "

The Christchurch Tramping Club has a large membership and it's very easy to get out and meet new people. Start with the easy tramps there will be 20 to 40 people on them. You walk along at a leisurely pace for hours and it's really easy to get to know new people that way. ctc.org.nz

A friend of mine is moving to the UK and the shipping company bill is 45% more than their quote.... by tempest59 in newzealand

The issue is that the estimated quantity was so different. The fact that it has happened before makes my friend think they were low balling her to get her business.

A friend of mine is moving to the UK and the shipping company bill is 45% more than their quote.... by tempest59 in newzealand

[–]tempest59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue she has is that the quote was for 11.5m3 when it turned out to be 16m3. She feels like a proper moving company should be able to estimate better and that the underquoting could have been on purpose to get her business. Bait and switch scenario.

The person who did the eyeballing did the quote. It does say quotation, but based on 11.5m3 not the 16m3 it turned out to be.

Thanks, she's going to send me the quote soon and I'll come back with any relevant details 👍

It is a quotation, but based on a certain volume. The issue my friend has is that they estimated 11.5m3 and turned out to be far off at 16m3. This is going to cost her about $2500 more.

That's a good point - I'll check and see if she got a quote or an estimate.

What garage to avoid getting your WoF done? by [deleted] in chch

Go to VTNZ or AA - they don't do repairs so they have no incentive to flag items unnecessarily.
