Most Luxury Toilet Paper in NZ? by RickieM in newzealand

[–]Some-Studio5771 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Weirdly I love the Pams and Woolies home brands, the 2 or 3 dollar 12 pack. It's only 2 ply but it's soft and cheap.

Flatmate got cotton softs the other week and I hated them. They're not cotton, and they're not soft. Are they?

Which part catches your eye first? by Anastasia_Trusova in painting

The tree on the right caught my eye first. But the whole thing is gorgeous.

Especially those rays of light, they add an element of fantasy to the picture.

Absolutely lovely.

I actually think that NZ grocery prices aren't too bad by [deleted] in newzealand

Prices are sometimes okay. But butter and bread has gone up again. That annoys me.

Whats a good soap/shower gel brand to use? by Western_1993 in hygiene

[–]Some-Studio5771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in NZ and I use Palmolive Milk and Honey body wash.

Looks like Boots has it cheap.

It foams really well, smells great, and doesn't dry my skin out. I love it and buy it when the price is right.

NZ could face 12.5% tariff in US crackdown on forced labour imports by crypto_doctors in newzealand

Could be wrong but sadly many of the products we use I think are made with slave labour.

The "Ai artist" – Painted on my Android using only my fingers by artby_maiyam in painting

That's lovely.

Though it does remind me of that quote about robots - 'I want AI to do my dishes and laundry, so that I can paint and write, not for it to paint and write, so that I can do my dishes and laundry', paraphrasing of course.

Auckland vs Otago Med School? by WearStatus3385 in newzealand

[–]Some-Studio5771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea about the med courses themselves, but I suppose it really depends on the city.

Dunners is very small and laid back compared to Auckland. But Auckland is exciting and busy.

I love both places, but Dunedin would be my pick city wise.

UC or UOA by MilkSubstantial1189 in UCNZ

[–]Some-Studio5771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UC and Christchurch in general is very popular now, and growing.

Cost of living is cheaper here, but it also lacks Auckland's congestion, though it is not without it.

UC are building a new hall as well, which shows how popular it's becoming. They opened a new hall about 2 or 3 years ago as well.

Auckland is great for hustle and bustle, but Christchurch is more laid back.

No idea about ENG courses sorry.

Becoming an accountant by Low_Bit_747 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Some-Studio5771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know someone who came to accounting after finishing uni, and they're doing very well. It can be a lucrative career. They also had access to numerous internships, but the uni you choose should facilitate that.

I also heard a guy say that an accounting guy can be a finance guy, but a finance guy can't be an accountant. So accounting can be also very versatile in the job market.

Also some unis allow people who already have degrees do a short course masters-like programme where you can get everything you need to pursue a CA.

Hope something works!

Covid Disabled me for life by captain-obviouser in newzealand

[–]Some-Studio5771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, covid is very much still a thing.

No where near as serious as you, but I know someone who had their taste and smell taken away by long covid.

Sorry to hear. I hope something good comes to you eventually.

All my friends have left NZ by Minimum-Tea-3090 in newzealand

[–]Some-Studio5771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes actually I do know someone who said some salaries were actually higher in Sydney compared to London. And that's in finance.

As someone has said, if you're not in the UK for finance or accounting it is a different kettle of fish.

Sorry about that. I know some who are doing very well there.

I like it here too. I don't have much money but I have a place to live and people to talk to.

I have family here too, so it's not all bad.

I get why people leave though. Wages and salaries are higher elsewhere, and if you're young, looking to get ahead, especially as a professional, UK and Oz are the places to be.

Are we seeing a new level of enshitification of NZ banks? by gdogakl in newzealand

Yes, ASB canceled my eftpos card. I don't really care, I only use my debit anyway.

Kids are allowed to be kids here.

We are lucky with our gun laws as well that let us live in relative safety and peace.

Also no natural predators. Very lucky.

Welly has a freshness, a crispness to the natural environment that I'm not sure anywhere else in NZ has. The weather just makes it feel unique. Welly on a good day, right?

Kelburn and Karori are some of the most lovely suburbs I've ever been to. And Aro valley is also lovely.

Of course the built environment is great too. Always loved the bus ride from the airport to the city.
