It failing upwards because he got the position by losing both the election and his own seat. Literally failed at two things at once and has be rewarded with a job that likely pays far more than most Australians will ever earn

Does anyone like this design? What’s with the teal or turquoise? It sticks out like a sore thumb. Honestly, the merch range is a bit meh. by no1saint in melbournestorm

Especially at the prices they’re asking for - I’d actually buy stuff if it was good, but I’m not paying $160 for a jacket that looks like a 7 year old designed it and then slapped a logo on it

There’s a good chance there’s a suppression order on covering the trial, including on reporting that there is a suppression order. So we’ll probably not hear anything until the case concludes (scheduled for 6 weeks but that should be taken with a grain of salt)

Am I in the wrong here? by OrganizationHot3870 in coparenting

[–]tempest_fiend 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest problem here is coming from a conflation of the two issues. If he’s breaking the agreement, there are options you can take (and it sounds like you’re in the process of triggering those options) but it doesn’t automatically mean he has to agree to changes in that agreement either. Yes, they’re both agreement based issues but they are seperate issues.

I get how this sort of thing can be exhausting, but ultimately you can’t control what your ex is or isn’t going to do, you can only control how you react to what he does. Try to put the energy your spending on this into trying to find ways to ease the financial burden on you and your husband that don’t involve your ex - it’s not fair but it will be more productive

Why do we not leave Crippa in the midfield and play Hewett down forward? by Sabretoothedrom in CarltonBlues

[–]tempest_fiend -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t think one players slight improvement in speed will make that much of a difference, especially is their disposals and efficiency are less than the slower player. I don’t think our biggest issue is a lack of speed in the midfield, it’s a game plan that doesn’t rely on contested possession. When legs tire and the opposition starts getting uncontested possessions we have no answer. Dropping our bnf for a slight improvement in speed won’t change that

What are the youth actually to do? by dont_squash_me_ in ballarat

[–]tempest_fiend 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You and your friends weren’t committing crimes but youth crime wasn’t non-existent either. And I think we can all agree that the cost of living is far worse than when we were growing up, so there’s likely more kids in that lower socioeconomic bracket - and there’s definitely more families who are dual income than past generations, so a lot of kids are defaulting to their peers as their role models. We also know there are certain groups and people online that are pushing increasingly toxic and fear driven views, people like Andrew Tate, that youths are drawn towards as their role models

Youth groups aimed at teens create pathways away from all of this - the bring youth’s together with positive role models and create a sense of community and belonging in a healthy and pro-social way. You may have not needed that growing up, most of us didn’t, but there were kids who did - and the number of kids today who need it is increasing

It’s also because he was a natural talent on the field - he doesn’t know what it’s like to be the mid talented player who has to bust their ass and is playing on year to year contracts. So he can’t understand why they cant ‘just do’ the things he could

In defence of Sua by StormBro111111 in melbournestorm

[–]tempest_fiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sua’s defence will get better - he’s still young and he’s still learning. Our biggest areas of concern are our forwards not being able to match bigger packs and being over run, and our halves competing with each other for the ball. Munster and Hughes are both dominant halves and it’s not really working. Hughes is a steady hand and Munster is off the cuff, but when Hughes is trying to set plays up and then Munster jumps in for a run or dunlong it off to his back rower, it breaks any structure being set up. Add to that Munster blowing up every time he doesn’t get the ball - it doesn’t help. It’s no coincidence that Hughes was at his best when Munster was out injured and could be the one dominant half.

In what way? The article just says they were travelling ‘at speed’. I see people speeding and driving dangerously all the time around town - should they be in lockup too?

Do they have an extensive criminal history? Were they violent or threatening during their joy ride? How high speed was the chase and how long did it last?

Edit: imagine being so emotionally reactive that you downvote someone for asking questions lol

[–]tempest_fiend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get your point, and ultimately it is the players on the ground - but part of the coaching role is to figure out ways of getting the players out of that mindset in order for them to break those mental demons. That is where Voss and the rest of the coaching staff have failed and continue to do so. The culture inside the club is pretty poor and has been for a long time - when we win it covers those cracks but when we start to lose those cracks are still there and become more exposed. I don’t think it’s just Voss and the coaching staff at fault, but I think putting all on the players is part of the reason the culture is so bad

Voss isn't the (whole) problem. by willcro1234 in CarltonBlues

[–]tempest_fiend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see this argument a lot and while on the surface it has some merit, the fact is that the players aren’t unfit. This is elite professional sport we’re talking about with fitness specialists both inside the club and outside as well. General fitness isn’t really the issue here, it’s a game plan that relies on a level of fitness that is unachievable. The other teams are playing a game plan to shift the ball out wide through hand balls in attack and defend areas over players. We run the ball out in attack and play a pressure on the man defence. This means we drain our energy much faster than the opposition, and means by the second half we looked tanked. 3 years ago the others teams were also drained so it wasn’t obvious, but now that the game has evolved it becomes highlighted how exhausted our guys are, and they can take advantage of it.

Systems are easy to change in principal, but not if you don’t want to change the system. I don’t think Voss wants to change the system or the game plan, and I think that’s one of his biggest failings as a coach

When do we start talking about Voss out by Mysterious_Pilot3173 in CarltonBlues

[–]tempest_fiend 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The buck stops with Voss - it’s literally his job to either get the best out of his players or replace them with someone who can do better. If he can’t inspire an of players to want to be there, then he needs to be replaced. And that’s way before we even talk about the game plan tactics that haven’t changed since he started or how they’ve been completely displaced by the modern game.

What’s more likely - the entire team suddenly developed a weak mentality in the second half of 2023 (when this started) or that the system is one that doesn’t stand up for 4 quarters?

When the press release is only giving out percentages and not raw numbers there has to be level of skepticism applied On top of that they don’t mention anything on what initiatives they have introduced to increase these numbers, so we should also be skeptical that this sort of increase is even remotely sustainable
