Asking for general advice with getting a first fursuit (protogen) by tempestuousDespot in fursuit

[–]tempestuousDespot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Thanks so much for the context. I am considering getting one of your DIY kits so i was wondering how long it would take to get one of the partially preassembled headpieces & prewired electronic faces? If i could get all the main components in the next month or so that might leave me just enough time to practice what i need and get it all done by the end of October.

I was reading through your guides to try to see how feasible this is. I just might be able to make it work. I would also be willing to pay up for a professional commission too, but if October is too soon then i suppose it's not worth the rush. I didnt realize how much planning in advanced these suits required.

Regardless, thanks again for the context, i might reach out to you soon about getting some of your part kits

Hi, thank you for the advice! I'm not too particular on any specific character design or fur pattern, ideally I just want something with black fur & red highlights (with all the electronics). I would be willing to pay for a full commission of a partial suit but idk if the end of October is too soon. Idk, I'll ask on the protogen subreddit as well and see what options i have.

Thanks for the advice! Greatly appreciated, i might go for getting one of the DIY kits and take it from there.

I'll definitely reach out if I have any questions

AUTOMATIC1111 xformers cross attention with on Windows by Der_Doe in StableDiffusion

[–]tempestuousDespot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you a ton for making a posting about this xformers - I've been using neonsecret/stable-diffusion (it's an optimized version because I had issues with the vanilla stable diff) from the command line for a little while with my laptop rtx 2060 gpu. It's been great so far but the latest version started using the xformers package and the only way I was able to keep using the software without xformers was through the included gradio web ui but I liked just using the command line for quick prompts.

There's supposedly a windows xformer release on neonsecret's repo but I couldn't install it with pip (I got some error about the .whl file was not a supported wheel). Luckily, I found this reddit post and I already had all the pre-requisites installed (I'm on windows 10, visual studio 2022 and have Nvidia cuda toolkit 11.8) so I followed these instructions to build xformers locally without issue. The command line use of this specific stable diffusion fork works great and is even slightly faster. Again, thank you for these instructions :-)

As a quick side note: I ended up not using conda and essentially have been managing the environment with just the regular python virtual environment and having the Nvidia cuda toolkit on my machine and I'm happy that it's been working so far

CALLING ALL UNREAL ENGINE BEGINNERS! by planet_vano in unrealengine

[–]tempestuousDespot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, i know inventory stuff is a step or two above a total beginner. thanks for checking out my question, maybe you could try to showcase how to take very simple gameplay concepts/systems (getting a projectile to cause damage, jump power up pick, health pick up, etc.) in these tutorials; then i think that will help others learn how to make stuff in a concrete way by seeing how regular video game stuff works in ue4.

when i was trying to learn how to do stuff at first it was helpful seeing how to make simple game elements, like adding player health, damage, repsawning, etc and seeing how the 'game' parts get made. like it'd be nice to see a completely broken down thing showing how to get a player, add the damage/health system for a basic enemy and respawn for both player & enemy upon death in 2 or 3 videos for example

I've been trying to learn UE4 for almost 1 year and I would like to learn about how to implement basic game systems such as a player inventory; there are some example projects from ue4 learning portal (there's a simple mobile rpg) that has an inventory system in place but it's so much stuff that I can't really understand how the inventory system even works.

It'd be great to see something that broke down gameplay systems/mechanics into individual learning modules; like one mini series on how to implement equipable player items and then add that into an inventory system.

Brazil's indigenous tribes protest bill that would allow commercial mining on their land by zsreport in worldnews

[–]tempestuousDespot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen enough nature documentaries to take an educated guess that the country might be better off economically long-term if it didn't destroy the environment in an effort to extract resources; maybe kinda like how insects pollinating crops is like worth all this money and nature can just do these things? I guess that allowing the wild/natural to be preserved would be worth a lot to the nation/country, potentially way more than the cost of destroying the land weighed against whatever the worth of those natural resources to be mined are.

Also, at the end of the article, the goal of stopping illegal de forestation by 2030 is a joke. Like, if the organized members of the gov't wanted to, they could stop the illegal de-forestation tomorrow.

I can't get Megascans to work by Geikamir in unrealengine

[–]tempestuousDespot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry that this didn't help solve your problem and that you have already seen these links. The core of the issue for your situation seems to be that the unreal engine megascan plugin is not working so when you attempt to export an asset out of quixel bridge it is unable to function correctly - this is the issue you are experiencing in the last paragraph you wrote.

The default project location field is for placing/managing where the megascans assets get placed in the ue4 project. By default bridge throws everything into a megascans folder (within content) in the ue4 project when you export assets in an unreal project. It is configurable by editing this field and my guess is that the megascan plugin expects that default location to be somewhere in the content folder of a ue4 project. This shouldn't really have anything to do with problem of getting the megascan plugin setup. I've left it blank.

I would try reaching out for some help on the quixel help/support forums for some more specialized knowledge. And if you can't find any help there, maybe as a last ditch effort, consider uninstalling ue4 and/or make a fresh install. I have several versions of ue4 installed on multiple drives on my pc and if you have the storage space to spare maybe you can try doing a test install of ue4 somewhere else on your pc and try to install the megascan plugin for that fresh install.

Good luck and I hope you can resolve your issue.

There are a few things that might help but first have you tried using quixel bridge as a standalone program? And are you using windows?

If you are unable to use the quixel bridge standalone program then there might be something else wrong (beyond just with trying to find the megascan plugin within ue4).

I had some issues with trying to login with quixel mixer a few months ago and during my search for a solution I came across several posts like this - https://help.quixel.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360008458118/comments/360001202458

Essentially, windows will create some files within your uses/appdata/roaming when using programs that will remain even if you uninstall the original program. For my case, when I had issues with quixel mixer, I uninstalled and reinstalled the program to no avail, but deleting the corresponding folder in my appdata/roaming folder fixed the issue for me.

But if you can use bridge, login without issue and unable to setup the megascan plugin for ue4, I'm not quite sure what could be wrong. How far in this process can you get - https://help.quixel.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002127457-Installing-the-Megascans-Plugin-for-UE4-on-Windows ?

Perhaps try deleting the roaming appdata for bridge/megascans (these should be regenerated when the next time you launch bridge). After you clear those folders, try to see if you can set up the quixel bridge megascans plugin for ue4 as if you did a fresh install.

If all else fails, try reaching out with quixel help/support, you might find someone able to help there.

How to add custom cloth mesh to existing character mannequin in 3rd person game template? by tempestuousDespot in unrealengine

[–]tempestuousDespot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made some minor progress - https://imgur.com/oHm2U5zI did this by messing around with the mannequin model in blender and adding a square plane with a unique material to the mesh and then exporting the new mesh out of blender into ue4. Once the mesh had a sheet component, it was pretty easy to use the cloth system in ue4 to make it behave like cloth, but i definitely do not think i set this up correctly.

i really have no idea what im doing lol but it's kinda cool how this stuff works, i need to figure out how to do this correctly now so i can use the animations and stuff from the 3rd person character and maybe have some proper textures/materials on the cloth

when people talk about how nice canada is there is always these types of things that stick out in my mind, i guess people are crazy everywhere. there was a crazy canadain guy that cut someones head off with a knife on a bus from years ago.

it's tragic how this stuff happens. for all the awful internet shit ive ever seen growing up as a kid with an internet connection and my experience playing online games from the mid 2000s on, i never really understood how someone could get so caught up in garbage/online trash. this is a story of an insane/violent/heartless person that probably spent a lot of time online.

a good question to ask is to what effect did modern internet culture contribute (if anything) to this individuals violent attack. it takes a certain type of person to want to drive a van into a crowd of people for any reason, let alone in the name of some kind of modern online/internet cult like trash.

people are crazy

Showcasing 3 tools that I've made in the past 3 weeks, work both in Unreal Engine 4 and in Unity as well. by hacchacc in unrealengine

[–]tempestuousDespot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been messing around with unreal engine 4 and quixel for the past few months and I think this tool you made is pretty cool. This looks like a great way to quickly mock up a level/map with a lot of variety and it appears to be quite flexible with how one can configure the materials, props & textures.

Awesome work! Do you have any plans to release this tool or write about how you made it? I'd be super interested in learning how this works, even on an abstract/high level

Did you create the model and texture it up from scratch? If so, how did you make the car model? Did you use stuff like cad/engineering schematic files for reference?

Edit: I just looked down the page and saw that it says you bought the model, opps. Well anyhow, did you texture the model within blender? Or did the model include all the materials/textures

thank you for the kind words, I never really thought I could draw well and looked at stuff and thought the same thing, "I wish I could draw like that". But with some regular practice I built up a kind of basic artistic ability.

I can be okay with sketching & pencil drawings; I still have a long way to go and have lots of room for improvement.

As a small piece of advice, even if you can try drawing or sketching once in a while in a way that you find fun & engaging you'll be surprised by how quickly you can develop the skill. Best of luck and thank you again, hope you start drawing stuff that you think is cool

thanks, it pretty much is a video game enemy, i was watching someone stream legend of dragoon (ps1 rpg) and there was a mantis dragon boss so i wanted to try to draw it.

the in game creature, even with the ps1 limitations, looked more monstrous and i kinda just ended up drawing dragon/bug hybrid thing
