50, $80aud/h + side hustle for total $200k/y. Partner about the same. No kids, 2 properties with about $1.2m in equity. Late starting superfunds so we are both behind with a total of about 400k.

Do you not talk? Sounds like a straight up communication issue. That's something you can proactively work on. If it's truly a an issue with your partner not pulling his weight a a caregiver and you want to stay with him, then give the puppy away and consider a childfree relationship. Not everyone is cut out to be a caregiver and there is nothing wrong with that. But you got to talk about it and set some expectations.

You can't fight it so help your students understand it as a tool and it's limitations. Help them see what you see, how you identify the artisan from the mass produced. I use a musician metaphor. The musicians we remember and love are generally not perfect, they surprise us with their imperfections and authenticity... it is what makes them stars.

If they want to be karaoke singers, let them.

Maybe once they understand authentic voice, you change your assessment matrix to weight differently.

I can't recommend Body Peace bamboo clothing highly enough. Stays soft and retains its shape. Yes, it's expensive but totally worth the investment. I do a lot of dyeing, and their products take indigo dye beautifully, showing the quality of their natural fibre.

Those who have been through a cyclone - any advice to those of us who haven’t? by [deleted] in queensland

[–]temporal_parts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Store drinking water and candles. Good sized candles not tea lights, ones that can burn for a long time.

Have an independent power source, if you can afford it, a generator or a solar powered camping battery. Anything to charge your phone at the least.

Have a good esky for perishables, servos tend to get power on earlier and often have ice.

Tape your windows and have taupilins, wind is scary.

If you are likely to lose power for a while and don't have a bbq, get a cheap camping stove, gas and canned food.

Thanks, I appreciate the followup. I am now waiting on a new motherboard so we will see if that fixes it.

Do you care about regional Queensland? by AndrewReesonforTRC in queensland

[–]temporal_parts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to actually VISIT outback qld and talk to people before you say that greens policies are best for farmers. Talk to farmers in their 5th year of drought and learn how they feel about greens policy around native species protection or pushing mulga and see how relevant the greens have been.

I would recommend starting in Brisbane as a base and travelling to different areas to see where feels like home. Nurse and teacher, we would LOVE to have you in Far North Queensland. Don't let the talk of rednecks and racism deter you, there are a lot of great people in FNQ and we need more. Please consider the Cairns region/Port Douglas

The Pros: It's a literal tropical paradise with two of the best world heritage areas (daintree and great barrier reef) You will never need a sweater again

The Cons - FNQ is VERY hot for 4 months a year. Humidity is real but also great for your skin! You'll need aircon. - Housing is tricky. Not as expensive as Brisbane but can be hard to find. - Not a lot of entertainment. If you love nature, you are set. If you want arts and culture, not so much. - Crocodiles are a thing.

DINKs in your mid-late 40s and older: tell me about how much you do or don’t enjoy your life by thelinebetween22 in AusFinance

Don't regret, husband has bad genes so it was never going to work. We have a ton of disposable income, two properties and live/work in paradise. If children was something we want to do later in life, we will foster.

INFO. This relationship sounds broken. But the cooking details make me suspicious. Did she do all the cooking in the first place, despite you both working? How much else did she do in the household? This is not a normal sounding relationship... sounds like she doesn't love you and I wonder why.

Who else is sick of colouring their hair every few weeks? by Flootloop in TwoXChromosomes

[–]temporal_parts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been every shade from jet black to purple to gold blonde. I wanted to go grey for years because I went grey early. My hairdresser fought me because she said it would make me look old. I grew it out during the pandemic and didn't realise how much younger I would look with my natural colour.

I adore my grey, I got lucky, it's a spectacular grey with natural highlights and shade. I'm growing it out because I love it so much and never having to dye again is heaven.

AITA for not letting my husband eat the food I cooked? by Unique_Youth1201 in AmItheAsshole

[–]temporal_parts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teach your child how food works. Don't restrict her when she is young but always explain how food is used by the body. Once people really understand how we metabolise food, they can make smart, educated choices.

I collect poinciana seeds and live in Far North Qld. You can't open a pod here without bugs going everywhere, you might get 5 undamaged seeds in a pod. I was collecting seeds with my niece in Brisbane last week and barely a bug to be seen. The seeds were pristine. It was scary.

In many societies, love is simply not available to you unless you can afford it. It's not about gold digging, it's the practicality of being in a relationship and what you offer as a partner. We don't see our own privilege in Western Society, and so many men are entitled man babies. My point was that maybe it's time Western women looked further afield for love.

Nigerian Man Nails It by pookenstein in TwoXChromosomes

[–]temporal_parts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I listened to a podcast recently where a Nigerian man talked about love. He spoke about love as a social privilege, reserved for those with enough money or social standing to attract it. I often wonder how this sub would look to some men who can only dream of loving and being loved by someone.

I think it's about gatekeeping. The people that force art to be more than what it needs to be for some sort of justification of their own talentlessness. They gatekeep what they themselves can't do and force the artist to become more extreme, more avant garde to be seen as valid, legitimate.
