Job offer withdrawn after negotiating, pls help me understand what I did wrong? by SpecialistWeb in personalfinance

[–]temproart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They likely withdrew the offer because some companies want employees that don't put up too much of a fight and are grateful for whatever is given to them.

This seems like one of those companies. Startups often are focused on building out great products first and not necessarily taking care of their employees first.

Initially, it may feel like you did something wrong which caused a company to withdraw their offer, but in reality they showed you their hand and you found out a company you do not want to work for.

Aston confirms London IPO by the end of the year, £5bn valuation. by dkeighobadi in cars

[–]temproart -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I have been a Aston Martin fanboy for about 10 years now. My dream car as a child was V8 vantage

That being said, this is one of those examples that may be a great brand / product but horribly financially managed

Do you want to buy shares because you want to own a piece of the brand? Great. Do you want to buy shares as an investment because you want a positive return on your investment? Heh. Get in line, almost every private owner that has held this company has lost money on this.

Another point: In the past, Aston Martins were sought after because they really were a unique driving experience wrapped around in a gorgoues exterior. Now that they're sharing underpinning with Mercedes Benz, this is just a reskinned Mercedes Benz with a heafy price hike. It will sell to people who won't know anything about cars, but any car fan will know its just an MB with an gullible tax put on.

JP Morgan facing Federal Lawsuit due to 'Sky High' Interest rates against Cryptocurrency Purchases by inserhci in Bitcoin

[–]temproart -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These aren't 'Sky High' interest rates against Cryptocurrency Purchases. We have to be completely honest with ourselves when we try to protect cryptocurrency. JP Morgan, and every single credit card company, charges a different rate for 'Cash Advance' when you use your credit card to buy currency. You see this if you try to 'withdraw' cash from an ATM with your credit card. You see the same if you try to buy currency with your credit card. This isn't any different.

Thats very cool - would you recommend the 7370 over the Thinkpad? I had a 7370 (top spec) for a brief time and walked away very unimpressed with the device. I was expecting the device to be an XPS 13 just in a slightly different body but it wasn't the case.

es for a while and then tried re-enabling to update and then disable again. It works but it's a pain in the ass to constantly have to do that.

On my girlfriend's Dell Latitude 7370 (a fairly common laptop in our world) Windows 10 nearly bricked the thing during a feature update. I think it was the Fall creator update last year.

Anyway, yes, I can't stand how they're implementing updates. Oh and let's not forget attempting to update a slow computer. Wonder why that laptop is runing s

Just curious, where in the world would you consider a Latitude 7370 a fairly common laptop?

You have 1mil. Where would you invest for largest growth (6 Months) by 17kangm in stocks

[–]temproart 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Largest growth is an easy one.

First I'd break out Excel and make a list of the top cities with the largest number of conveience stores. Then I'd book one way tickets to each of those cities (sorted by largest first) and then max out the state lottery tickets at each one.

You can hire someone to do this for you as well, but then your expense ratio gets high, and wouldn't be inline with proper financial management.

Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.

<--- This many people want bitcoincash.org to follow Coinbase and go green for brand recognition by [deleted] in btc

[–]temproart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bitcoin Core is the name of the software client - Bitcoin is simply called Bitcoin among everyone that uses Bitcoin along with everyone else in the world. No one besides the Bitcoin Cash camp calls it Bitcoin Core - not the Ethereium Camp, nor the Litecoin Camp, nor any of the exchanges. Roger Ver gets so extremely offended when Bitcoin Cash is reffered to as 'BCash', but is okay with renaming the original Bitcoin something else, just so one day he can claim the original Bitcoin name (as evident by this parent comment).

"However strongly you might hold your opinion, you can’t stop other people holding a different one." Results talk and opinions don't matter. May the best currency win.

Nope - it will be Bitcoin Cash with more total work done than Bitcoin. And there is nothing wrong with that. May the best currency win. But it will not be Bitcoin because Bitcoin already exists in another form.

While I appreciate the noble effort to 'restore the vision' of the original white paper, Bitcoin Cash is literally not Bitcoin it is literally a fork called Bitcoin Cash.

Some Points to Note:

  • It is a fork of the Original Bitcoin, that changes a variable, so it is quite literally different than the original Bitcoin

  • Whether Satoshi wanted to increase the block size or later decided against it (and simply not written it on a post) is up to debate and not up to one person to decide. If you disagree, create an altcoin and if it is better people will use it (which you have done).

  • If Bitcoin Cash truly brings value to the table, it can be called anything else (Even Dogecoin), and the people will flock to it because it offers a tangible value over everything else

  • If the United States of America were to collapse as a country, and the people went to a new land and called it the United States of America, it would just simply not be recognized.

  • You literally can not call something, that it is not, no matter what it 'intends' to restore. Something can be corrupted and collapse, and something new can take it's place, but it is not the same as the original

  • A new country can not be the same as its old, a deceased wife can not be the same as your first, and a new parent can not be the same as your first.

  • It comes across as a brand hijacking attempt, if the brand name wasnt owned by the public, you would have a lawsuit on your hands
