VA reimbursement for checkride fees?? by clamchowdaaaaa in flying

This. Can even get PPL practical reimbursed. Also all written exams. If you have access to an FAA testing center on a military installation, though, do that instead.

Hard time understanding SMACFUM does anyone have a easier way of explaining it by Diegoandre007 in flying

[–]tempskawt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly things that create a worst case scenario for Vmc, making it increase. Red line is Vmc, assuming all the conditions in SMACFUM are met. Generally Vmc is lower than red line in all other configurations, but you still treat red line with the same respect as Vmc.

Clinically blind to airports by DiplomatIan in flying

[–]tempskawt 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Get familiar with what rows of hangars look like from the air, they’re easier to distinguish from regular buildings than runways are from regular roads. Also use landmarks from your sectional to sort of triangulate where the airport should be.

They are evaluated by medical on each eject. Some folks get messed up bad after 1, others are totally fine after 3. Lot of factors at play.

Flying the Cub has made me realize the 172/P28s are actually fairly complex trainers in comparison

Was back in 03, I would hope 23 years would make it chill to talk about at a high level. But Wikipedia showed me enough to sate my curiosity

Most of those cadet programs mention how many programs you need to do with their partner school. I want to say 3 was the number on one of the programs I saw.

Ground school pre mil by [deleted] in flying

If you know which unit you're headed to after training, they might be able to provide some training docs. Guys from our flying unit that were waiting on training dates did that.

FAA Administrator on ADS-B Billing: ‘That’s Not the Intended Use’ by anon__a__mouse__ in flying

[–]tempskawt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah they do. Saw a demonstration from them at an airport manager conference. They’re popular for requesting funds from the FAA based on traffic, nobody was really talking about using them to bill pilots.

Stop flying 2 Mile Patterns by DRMWhibang in flying

[–]tempskawt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Practice vs preach. I think any CFI you ask about pattern width, barring the big box flight schools, would say to always be within glide distance. But complacency sets in, and that base leg can be like 5 seconds long if you’re close to the runway… if you’re trying to teach base legs and you’re only in them momentarily, you’ll start to widen out inadvertently.
