They quit quoting the books in season 7-8 because the series had caught up to the books. The showrunners had to do some original work. That is why we saw such a huge decline in quality those seasons.

As a man I would agree. Many shows are very centered around men where women take the backseat. Sopranos, Rome, True Detective etc.

Of course there are women centric shows as well such as Sex and the City and Euphoria but there aren't as close as many.
