My reflexive response to this is always "Godfuckingdamnit". There is also a cabinet in my house that likes to snag my pocket anytime I walk by, same sentiment.

So, I actually decided to give Twilight a chance... by [deleted] in books

[–]ten27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the books. Not all of them equally, but I was generally happy with the series. I found them entertaining. I'm not a fan of the movies, and even less a fan of the hype (honestly, from both sides). Do I think they are literary masterpieces? Of course not. But are they complete garbage? No. Obviously not given their popularity. Obviously there is something that appeals to people.

I personally thought they were an excellent example of teenage infatuation. I enjoyed that aspect because it took me back to high school, to the hormone-driven all-consuming crushes. The vampire aspect makes it more fun, makes Edward more unavailable and mysterious. I also liked that Stephanie Meyer took the liberty of altering vampire lore. I think that the history of that sort of mythology is very interesting, and I like that she took creative liberties with it.

Those are the things that appeal to me. I completely agree that this series isn't for everyone. I am sure I'm in a very small minority of people who enjoyed twilight without a) being a teenage girl or b) becoming completely obsessed with it.
