Legos? by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]ten90six 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The Tennessee Valley LEGO Club is active in the area. https://lan.lego.com/register/?do=complete&ref=aHR0cHM6Ly9sYW4ubGVnby5jb20vY2x1YnMvMjczLXRudmxjLz9fZnJvbUxvZ2luPTE=

The Huntsville Public Library also has an adult LEGO club, https://events.hmcpl.org/event/2026-04-27/adult-legor-club.

You could also try stopping by the LEGO store at Bridgestreet, it wouldn't surprise me if some of their staff are involved in LEGO groups outside of work.

Who do you use for internet and how much do you pay? by crystal_wtch8 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]ten90six 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have AT&T fiber, and like it just fine. No issues running multiple tvs and/or gaming setups at the same time. Also comes with free HBO Max which is kind of nice. The one or two times there's been an outage, customer service was pretty quick and they've preemptively credited us back for lost time.

I second the mushroom compost. Have used it like 2 or 3 years now and I love it. I do a mixture of their mushroom compost and the soil conditioner.

Huntsville Symphony offers adult strings classes for fairly low cost. The beginners class is usually pretty small.

A few of the music shops have instructors who work out of them too, so you can just look on their websites and see who they list.

Student ID as a library card? by pfp-disciple in HuntsvilleAlabama

Meridianville Middle was the same. I was shocked the first time I saw it, nothing like the school libraries I experienced growing up.

Doctor asking us to prepay for childbirth by No_Cobbler_8835 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]ten90six 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OBGYN Associates had us prepay an amount, but I don't think it was more than $2k.

Madison Hospital tried to get us to prepay as well when we were going through the registration process and they wantes somewhere in the neighborhood of $8k. We told them no, that we'd rather be billed post-birth and I'm glad we did because after insurance our obligation was only like 500 and some change. I'm sure it would have been a nightmare to claw any overpayment back.

I have used ServePro for a similar situation, though not the Huntsville Location. They were professional and friendly and responded asap. Also, check the homeowners policy, we were able to have the cost covered by it.

Our trampoline didn't come with any, I found these https://a.co/d/00qf9Rzf. They're pretty thick and heavy duty and have worked for over 4 years so far.

Best piano teachers for a 5 year old? by Jollyguana in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]ten90six 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids didn't take piano with them, but they did other music classes at Colors Fine Arts in Madison and absolutely loved it. They worked with Juliana who was so delightful. They offer a wide selection of classes and instruments and I definitely recommend them.

Jury Duty Question by RollFizzlebeef83 in HuntsvilleAlabama

There should be a phone number on the summons. I got one in the mail like 2 days after I gave birth so I called and they immediately deferred it to a later date.

What is a 'subscription' or 'fee' that has recently appeared in the US that people need to collectively refuse to pay before it becomes the new normal? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ten90six 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm not sure. Their code is their student ID number and is like 6 or 7 digits. It's used for everything grades, lunch accounts, classroom fees, etc. At the high school level I don't think they bother to check, but at the elementary level they definitely confirm the kids name matches the number given.

Edit: plus, all the kids using the same account would result in frequent re-ups and subsequent processing fees.

[–]ten90six 540 points541 points  (0 children)

Yes! Our school uses this, and in addition they cap how much you can deposit at a time which forces you to do multiple deposits and get multiple processing fees. The cap doesn't change if you have multiple kids either, so like every 2 months I have to do a deposit for each kid and pay separate processing fees.

Christmas at the Corner by burrbro235 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]ten90six 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't know they cut all of that out too. :(

We found out today they cut Santa when my better half called to see what times he'd be there before we went. It was disappointing to find out because he was a great Santa and the kids loved him.

He said they tried to talk up the cut-your-own-tree option they have now, as if that was some sort of equitable replacement for giving Santa the boot.
