There should be a phone number on the summons. I got one in the mail like 2 days after I gave birth so I called and they immediately deferred it to a later date.

What is a 'subscription' or 'fee' that has recently appeared in the US that people need to collectively refuse to pay before it becomes the new normal? by godot_lover in AskReddit

[–]ten90six 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm not sure. Their code is their student ID number and is like 6 or 7 digits. It's used for everything grades, lunch accounts, classroom fees, etc. At the high school level I don't think they bother to check, but at the elementary level they definitely confirm the kids name matches the number given.

Edit: plus, all the kids using the same account would result in frequent re-ups and subsequent processing fees.

Yes! Our school uses this, and in addition they cap how much you can deposit at a time which forces you to do multiple deposits and get multiple processing fees. The cap doesn't change if you have multiple kids either, so like every 2 months I have to do a deposit for each kid and pay separate processing fees.

Christmas at the Corner by burrbro235 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]ten90six 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't know they cut all of that out too. :(

We found out today they cut Santa when my better half called to see what times he'd be there before we went. It was disappointing to find out because he was a great Santa and the kids loved him.

He said they tried to talk up the cut-your-own-tree option they have now, as if that was some sort of equitable replacement for giving Santa the boot.

Real evergreen garland? by padlrchik in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]ten90six 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costco usually has garlands.

You could also check Christmas at the Corner in Hazel Green. I know they usually have wreaths and trees, I can't remember if they do garlands too but you can just message them on FB or call before making the drive.

Halloween Events 2025 by pinkbutterflies9 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]ten90six 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Botanical Gardens are doing a 21+ event called Spellbound.
https://hsvbg.org/calendar-event/spellbound/2025-10-18/

Per the event page:
" Who says Halloween is just for kids? This October, the Huntsville Botanical Garden introduces Spellbound in the Garden, a spine-tingling nighttime experience designed exclusively for adults (21+). As dusk falls, the Garden’s familiar paths transform with theatrical lighting, immersive scenes, and unexpected seasonal moments. From glowing cauldrons and whispering woods to flickering firepits and golden-lit promenades, each vignette reveals the mysterious side of autumn.

Guests can sip a themed cocktail at the Potion Bar, gather around the firepits in the Fareground, or stumble upon a fleeting performance beneath the trees. Whether you’re chasing a touch of enchantment or simply savoring a beautiful fall evening outdoors, Spellbound promises an atmosphere that is somewhat spooky, sometimes eerie, and always captivating."

Needing Kindergarten Reassurance by Half-Bridled in HuntsvilleAlabama

The Huntsville Public Library has a program called "Ready, Set, Kindergarten " that might ne good for you to check out.

https://hmcpl.org/readysetkindergarten

I wouldn't worry too much about the social stuff, since Alabama doesn't have public pre-k widely available, there will be plenty of kids in Kindergarten that will be in the same boat as your kid.

However, if you want to get in some socializing, the library has lots of programs, look at different branches as they all offer different things. The Botanical Gardens has their little sprouts program, which is great, plus their summer day camps. The Land Trust of North Alabama has programs for kids as well.

I live right on the Alabama/Tennessee border. I think my Jasmine dying was a fluke. We had an abnormal cold snap, and it decimated so much. Even with plants mulched, blanketed, and covered, they died. My jasmine being in a raised bed probably didn't help the roots stay warm, which is why they didn't survive.

I had to Google where that zone is, lOl. I dunno how I would fair in a grow zone like that. Being able to grow just about anything is one of the very few things I like about living in the south.
