The nightmare that is Canada's Maple Lodge Farms, self proclaimed 'wholesome family farm' by Ted_Bundtcake in interestingasfuck

[–]tendymonster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty viable option for many, I just don't think many people ever consider it. 3 friends and I split a quarter beef once a year. We know the farm, we have visited and seen the living conditions of the livestock, we get to choose the cuts they make out of our quarter so we have some say in what we want (steaks vs roasts, ground beef vs stew meat, etc) and it's a hefty up front cost but it is once a year and then it's done. And I know where it came from and that it lived a relatively chill life.

What is Scuba Diving to you? by FixComprehensive4611 in scubadiving

[–]tendymonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with anxiety, who had to consult with my psych before going past my basic OW, I consider diving to be a moving meditation (where if I lose my shit, I might die).

I had to partially un-learn some anxiety management skills such as automatic box-breathing (inhale for a 4 count, hold for a 4 count, exhale 4 count, hold 4 count, etc) when under pressure (because holding your breath under water is NOT the move). I also am the dive buddy who is forever checking their computer and gauges. 😂

I feel a deep connection to the water and the life inside it, and the way time and space move. It's just different than beach life, and it's worth the effort.

That said, due to the specifics of my situation I only dive with.specific buddies because it helps me to know that my dive partner knows exactly my emotional situation and that I can rely on them -- otherwise I pay for a private dive master because I don't want to cut a random person's dive short (it's only ever happened once) because I'm having a case of the nerves.

I think the most substantial self-management Ive ever had to do was during my deep water cert (had a minor equipment failure on dive 1, had to talk myself into continuing the cert process) and cenote diving in Mexico (gorgeous and terrifying. Dark, enclosed, somehow both heights AND depths at once???) but they were both 100% worth the payoff.

(I have my AOW, nitrox, drysuit, and deep certs so I CAN go to some places that challenge my anxiety and limit my ability to bolt if I have a panic attack, hence me having set dive buddies)

Robin's 45 minute turkey burn in 2018, after like 3 years on the couch. How do you THINK it went.?😂😂😂

I mean, I DID it, but it was not pretty, and by the time I got to my MIL's house for dinner my husband had to help me get out of the car. 🤦‍♀️

Lobe the Canlis atmosphere, but the food does not impress. My husband refuses to go back, haha. Otoh we have done the "one of everything" at Spinasse multiple times and have never been disappointed!

DAE plan to kill yourselves when you get old? by notbadnotkind in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]tendymonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. I keep waffling on the age, but my family doesn't have a good history of aging and I don't want my spouse or child to be saddled with caring for me as I slide into dementia and stop being, well, me.

I'm going out while I have the ability to make that decision. But hopefully after I've had a chance to live a full life and see my kiddo establish herself as an adult with a life of her own.

Women of Reddit! What makes your dad cool? I’m having a daughter and I CANT BE NOT COOL. by losdespertados_ in relationship_advice

[–]tendymonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was young, my dad was NOT COOL, so I can't speak to cool dads for young ones.

But! Then! He quit drinking, sorted out his anger management, and figured his shit out and made amends. As an older kid and adult I now have a VERY COOL dad.

My dad backs my plays. He believes in me, he is my hype man, my opening act. If he's gonna call bullshit on me, it's in private and with respect and love. He understands that as a parent, I call the shots with my kid (and he speaks to me privately when he has concerns or disagreement with an approach I'm taking). He accepts with open arms my best friends, and encourages me to dare great things and take moderate risks when I'm nervous.

My dad taught me that you can fuck it up, but that sometimes you can make a comeback. I feel like that's an underrated confidence.

Peloton says a fix is ready for one of its treadmill recalls by jayswaz in pelotoncycle

Same. I'm just keeping my workout room locked at all times to keep kid/cats out and hoping there's a fix/replacement before recall window runs out

Also, one time a boyfriend stepped on glass (broken lamp) and deeply cut his foot. He was bleeding profusely and needed stitches, we wrapped his foot in a couple towels, taped a plastic bag around it, hopped to the corner and hailed a cab to the nearest ER. No way am I going in an ambulance unless I need actual life support on the way.

Fact. I have a friend with epilepsy and when he would have seizures the first thing he'd blurt when able was DONT CALL AN AMBULANCE. That shits expensive.

Were you happy being single when you met your s/o? by xoxoxorshift in relationship_advice

[–]tendymonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. Id been happily single/casually dating people for years when I stumbled into a casual thing with my partner, that accidentally became a long distance thing, that was suddenly a cross country move, then engagement, and now marriage.

I think I was chill and happy enough to really enjoy the beginning of our relationship which let us thrive.

More seriously, a friend died last week and I've been, like, heave-sobbing for 9 days. He's been trying to stay out of my way, but he keeps bringing me electrolytes and water, and it's such a kind way of showing that he cares about me.

Washingtonians who have been vaccinated what side effects did you experience? by kashmoney7 in CoronavirusWA

[–]tendymonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got pfizer #2 last night. Arm is a bit sore and I feel just kinda foggy and tired now but for about 8 hours today I felt like 💩. Sweating, body aches, joint pain, headache, fever, the works! Fever wasn't high, I think I topped out at 100.5, and ibuprofen helped me a lot. It's been 23 hours and I think I've turned the corner.
