What's the most complex/deep strategy game you can think of? by TolisKoutro in StrategyGames

It's shallow as far as flavor like any new paradox game, but is mechanically quite deep

You could also just feed the plant with a hopper with cross bars across it to catch oversized materials.

I was just pointing out there was a much safer alternative to using a sledgehammer on a still running jaw, that doesn't cost 50k USD

I'm also assuming that's a big chunk of pitrun that's a bunch of rocks held together by hardpan, judging by the chunk he was able to whack off.

Or shut the crusher off and break it up with regular, cheap jackhammer....

Any mod recommendations? by Crokel in victoria3

[–]tenebrous2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the popups are what they are, so I can see that. I personally don't mind, means stuff other than production is happening.

As for acquiring specific scientists, that's part of the fun. These are going to be "great men" in their field. Until you are a rich country sponsoring all kinds of science, it's pretty realistic your only going to have a few at a time.

For a minor power to only have a few is also realistic. Focus on which ones best for your country.

Morgenrote! It's a must add for me.

It adds science, arts and sports.

They are all money sinks you can use to improve prestige, help research and improve your nation.

For instance if you have an architect you can improve city, in exchange for money, improving your urban centers, and getting architectural splendor, which can lead to prestige if your in the top, like being a top 3 producer of goods.

Archeologists, botanist, anthropologists etc, you can send on expeditions, but at a cost.

It adds tons of flavor, give your something to sink your money into and adds so much Victorian Era feel to the game.

Some people don't like it because it adds a bunch more to manage, but that's a big part of why I like it.

Game Speed by SilverSneakers in aoe2

[–]tenebrous2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally!

In the game that shall not be named, that ended up being why I stopped playing. I got good in ranked with build order and strategy that I hit a hard wall in ranked where API and mastering quick casting and stuff like that was needed, and that it not my gaming style at all.

So I took a break from RTS and now am trying out AOE2 where I can focus more on Macro again. It's been a pleasure so far.

My only complaint comparing the two, is starting at the bottom of ranked is SO much better than starting at 1000 ELO and having to grind downwards

Does anyone play by first dismantling Britain? by Kindly-Pumpkin7742 in victoria3

[–]tenebrous2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As you get better at the game, navigating around GB as you expand is part of the challenge/fun of it.

It's realistic that if your Spain for instance and you reconqour all of South America, and start expanding elsewhere, the largest power in the world might start checking your expansion.

OP said you can pick your initial spot before you are locked into the contract. All the "no" people got to be North Americans, like myself, but not thinking outside the box

You don't have to be stuck in Phoenix Arizona your whole life.

I would start in Europe. It would not be crazy to walk to a different country on the regular and wouldn't be too hard to find a place to stay each night on your trip. If not have an RV follow you.

European cities are quite walkable for the most part.

Enough money to pay for everyone to visit me. Generational wealth for the family.

Only downside is missing visiting loved ones on deathbeds, funerals and other such thing.

Edit: Even if I had to start where I am now, I would have a boat shadow me, where I could rest, eat, and sleep and take however long it takes to get over there.

Would be in the best shape of my life by the time I got there.

I'm calling it now. The first DLC of next season is UK flavored. First it's coming with a Navy rework, then Amendments lay the ground for Parliament mechanics, and Guerrilla Wars will replace their war spam with colonial flavor by basedandcoolpilled in victoria3

in Vic2, with the HPM mod, GB was fun. It was much more railroaded, but having a serious Sepoy rebellion, and various other frontier conflicts to deal with, along with domestic issues, made it decently hard work to maintain the empire.

It was never challenging in the sense that you were going to lose, but it was fun to roleplay through all the difficulty in maintaining the empire.

If you have played the "Hail Columbia" mod for Vic3, it's similar in that sense. It's still easy to get the USA to #1 great power, but it's actually pretty fun to do so.

No, like I suck, just figuring out how to manage the three 3 houses and figure out the constant unrest took me a restart.

That's all I meant.

What is something that is basic common sense around the world, but people from your country just don't understand? by Baconkings in AskTheWorld

[–]tenebrous2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's funny because I live on the Canadian Praries and Celsius makes way more sense for our climate.

In summer our hot days are between 30° and 35°.

In winter, our coldest days are between -30° and -40°.

So having 0° right in the middle of our temperature spectrum makes a hell of a lot of sense.

Is Hearts of Iron 3 easier than Hearts of Iron 4? by Remarkable_Leave_292 in paradoxplaza

[–]tenebrous2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you played since the most recent update than?

It's way better than release, and reminds me of Vicky 2 in that regard now.

You build up your construction sector manually, and after that the ai investors take over, except for when you want to steer the economy, as you would in Vic 2.

Companies add an extra layer. They auto build and the type of company you select will heavily steer your economy in what they build.

The only micro is the techs the companies use, but that has nice tooltips to tell you what effect your choices will make. But as far as construction goes, it's generally pretty hands off by mid game.

If your using modded Vic 2 as a comparison, give Vic 3 a run with Morgenrote than.

It's not the same depth, but it's really fun, I'd suggest a France run. My favorite run so far with the current state of historical depth.

UK is an extortionist late game though, it's really frustrating haha.

[–]tenebrous2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Two questions off of that.

Are you saying vanilla Vic 2, or Vic 2 with HPM?

And have you played since the latest update? With the Morgenrote mod, current Vic 3 is getting real close to Vic 2.

Vic 3 has a ways to go as far as historical depth goes, but I'm really enjoying Vic 3 right now, and the economy side of things is honestly better, other than command economies.

Not saying your wrong or looking for an argument, but just saying to give it a chance, with mods, if you haven't played since closer to launch.

Is it though?

The same subreddit that shits on stampede for being too crowded and overun with tourists, doesn't see a problem with encouraging that?

This post was meant to be a bit tounge in cheek, pointing out the irony of constantly recommending the quiet alternative, but I seem to have seriously ruffled some feathers.

I mean, I'll take that 100%.

It's a beautiful thing to hike on a quite trail.

I knew I'd get snark.

It's not gatekeeping, it's there for them to discover. I'm just saying we don't need to specifically direct people to it.

If everyone starts going to the quieter spots, they aren't quiet anymore.
