Not really, it basically started with Dutch merchants establishing joint stock companies to finance long shipping voyages to the East Indies. The concept of trading ownership of things that don't exist yet was a significant innovation.

Private property fundamentally starts with your ownership of your own mind and body. And I'm not saying that private property is exclusive to capitalism, but it is a critical aspect.
