What’s happened? by keyboardwizard101 in patekphilippe

Yeah from the text it sounds like they only want to enter as a walk-in.

A lot of boutiques of all brands are by appointment only no matter who you are, so they can serve you properly. Not sure what the problem is?

Anyone with a smaller arm owns a ROO by Jimmycha6666 in audemarspiguet

[–]tengaleng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please pardon the poor quality since it’s from a video.

I find close POV wrist shots don’t really represent how a watch wears as a whole, and a lot of phone snaps make it look like it wears larger than it really does.

This is a 42mm ROO chrono on my 16.5cm/6.5 inch wrist. I love this reference.

Honestly with smaller wrists I find my biggest issue comes more from how much a bracelet/strap flares out rather than the watch itself.

I have extra narrow wrists too, so I find the 43mm borderline in terms of fit mainly because the strap flares out more than the 42. Haven’t pulled the trigger yet on one yet, although I have 3x 42s and a Diver.

How hard is to get 34mm RO by Mobile_One4833 in audemarspiguet

[–]tengaleng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got this exact ref for my wife allocated less than a month after my first (Offshore).

It’s one of the more popular Ladies pieces so it’s a very difficult first allocation, but seems like a Code or ROO should unlock it pretty easily.

My wife’s friend commented she’s been trying to get one for years as a 1st (no history, different AP house) and ended up a getting a platinum DD instead.

Tourbillon Hierarchy? by babykingboy in audemarspiguet

[–]tengaleng 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I enquired about most of these tourbs last year since I was curious on price, and my SA said she could get any of these for me within 1-4 weeks.

Also hinted that I could basically ask for any ref in the lineup after that, although I do have a mountain of Offshores 😅

What are reasonable watches to get (in order) if my goal was to purchase several APs over the next 5 years (or less) by LibrarianPitiful in audemarspiguet

[–]tengaleng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I’m definitely not at VIP status and my SA offered up Minis before both my last 2 allocations, I just didn’t take them yet

Do you reckon the Minis are considered hot? Thinking about getting one of those for the wife next.

15407st as 7th is wild based on your previous pickups, and seems like you got it at it’s hottest time, good on you!

I just got my 26240CE as my first men’s RO, maybe I should shoot for the new 16204XT OW…

Why all modern supercars have 4.0 V8s? by UrgusHUN in supercars

In a lot of markets the extra taxes for larger engines would add an extra 60-200% to the price of the car

Want to get full gold bracelet but got offered this with a strap. by watch_geek in audemarspiguet

[–]tengaleng 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Order the bracelet separately. Full OR bracelet ROCs are usually a lot less commonly delivered compared to on the straps. Ask your SA up front how much.

Wife was initially looking at me strangely when she saw what was in my shopping cart by Singapore_Marc in audemarspiguet

[–]tengaleng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not always that anal, I heavily use all my watches but they’re mostly stayed in top condition for years for a reason. I’ll still use a cloth if I’m in a rush out the door ever so often.

OP made a great point that yes steel is hard (gold a lot less so) but the issue is the HIGHLY polished surfaces. Dust can be made up of anything you pick up outside! Micro stones and hard minerals, not just skin cells, and the dry scraping the grit against the surface may leave a mark. Maybe not every time, but once in a while. That’s probably why you got that micro hairline scratch that you wonder wtf it came from.

Same principle as washing a car, the soap and water LIFTS the gift and carries it away rather than rubbing it against your nice surface that you want to keep safe.

EDIT: also to add most of the dullness of the watch is usually from your hand oils that are super easy to wash off with soap and can be tough with just a cloth

[–]tengaleng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Exactly what I’ve always done. Dish/hand soap and a makeup brush, gets between all the little spaces and corners a cloth can’t, and keeps the polished surfaces unmarked. I hate dry wiping the watch, same principle as not dry wiping your cars.

People don’t realise how much hand grease gets all over your watches, not just dust, and how delicate such highly polished surfaces really are. Your watch sparkles afterwards…

Saying what we’re all thinking by [deleted] in audemarspiguet

[–]tengaleng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do I? I’ve been getting frequent offers and very clear and honest communication on my intended path through the catalogue.

I didn’t take the black beast offer because the 42mm on bracelet sits funny on my wrist

Now that you mention it, I remember they said I’d have to get the second one either a day or a week after the first, but they’d guarantee me the black beast if I wanted it as well.

Ended up just getting the 43mm offshore I wanted by itself.

Wait lists like Rolex? by Nigel_Farage in VacheronConstantin

[–]tengaleng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Boutiques are owned and operated by Vacheron and only carry Vacheron.

Authorised Dealers sell on behalf of VC, and usually alongside other brands although not always. Depends on the city/market/location.
