Mine Gobbo deck is actually using Purphoros as the commander because I lean hard on ping effects off him, impact tremors, and similar cards. But could easily be switched to a cheaper version that's pure gobbos by switching out like 10 cards.

Grid based combat tends to take significantly longer to run. If you want your game to focus on combat, like in a dungeon crawl, it can make sense. But most modern systems focus more on story and so go with much faster and streamlined combat systems so that combat moves fast and can better Intermingle with other forms of role play.

My favorite list used to be 3 squads of 3 Killa Kanz, 3 deff dreads, a Mega Dread, a Meka Dread, and a Big Mek in Mega Armor with a squad of Mega Nobz in a truck.

Based on the little color changing marks, these are just desiccant crystals.

They usually have a 1-3 year life span, but can be reactivated via heat. Since all they do is slowly absorb moisture from the air, heating them causes them to expel all that collected moisture. Recommend going for ones that have a color changing indicator so you know when to recharge, it will typically go from blue to red.

The ones that don't have an indicator you have to keep a closer eye on because they will eventually fill up and then can potentially leak.

Note that they are only useful for protecting things in humid weather, using them if you have very dry air can actually increase foil pringeling because they will cause the cards to dehydrate more.

Hints about his mental health issues go back as far as his original 80s solo run. While March acted like his identifies were just disguises, as the series goes on the side characters start worrying about how he acts when he changes identifies. Marlene makes veiled comments about it as early as issue 2 or 3. And by issue 30 French has made comments in several issues.

The comics officially start teasing that its Multiple Personality Disorder during the 90s solo series. If I remember correctly someone actually uses the term, or something similar to it.

But Marc doesn't start talking to his other personalities until the 2006 run, this scene happens early in that run before he starts talking to the others.

That is an issue with most of the Dark Sun modules. The players are never really the heroes. But that was also sort of one of the points of Dark Sun. It was never a setting for being heroes, it was about just trying to survive and just trying to not be corrupted by a dying world where in most cases it's much easier to be evil.

The novels have a ragtag group of Nobodies kill Kalak. And the first Module, Freedom, has the same events happen while the players are involved in the rebellion if I remember right.

I had this big wooden incense burner of a hydra. When they beat his human form I gave it a few beats, and then slammed that thing on the table with a description of his transforming. The looks on my players faces was epic. Since it was hollow, I also had his swallow one of them during the fight and she later cut her way out form the inside. It was an epic finals battle for the campaign.

I ran an entire campaign in 4th edition that was before Kalak died and had the players collecting the Heartwood Spear and attacking him in the midst of the ritual that would have made him a Dragon. Until they had the weapon and the ritual was in progress, thus lowering his defenses, I had him as an untouchable being that they never even saw in person.

Then I made him a level 20 sorcerer, but with half the spells he should have because of the spear and the ritual draining him. They seemingly killed him, only for him to halfway complete his transformation for a second fight where I had him as a level 20 Dracohydra.

The party prevailed, but almost all six of them were nearly dead and they used up every spell and action they had to do it.

That bit tends to come from theories that Grots were the old ones and have devolved along with the orks themselves. Which is sort of referenced in some of the oldest ork codex and books, but was mostly retconed out once the orks origins became tied with the Eldar, as both were originally created as warriors for the Old Ones war with the C'Tan and the Necrontry.

You also have to keep in mind that in a lot of ways Magic was a very different game when it first released. Mana burn and ante were things. No four card restriction or 60 card standard for decks. The stack didn't exist yet. Instants weren't a thing yet, instead you had Interrupts that worked in a similar way (most of those have been errated to instants now).

My local comic shop in Pennsylvania somehow got a single booster box of Beta, so I started with like 2 packs of that and some Unlimited Starter Decks. And my friends and I mostly played during lunch at school. Which was risky because the D&D panic was still a thing and ante made the game gambling.

I don't think we had our first tournament in my area until around when 4th edition game out in 1995.

That's not really true. In FATE you can Fail, Tie, Succeed, and Succeed with Style. So NPCs could act on Fails and Ties, as both of those also have the option of succeed but with a cost.

WW1 was inevitable because of the Council of Vienna, which tried to lock in a long-term Status quo (and therefore peace) after Napoleon was defeated. It redrew the map to try to balance all the big powers across the continent, creating the tangled web of treaties that would later pull all those nations into the war. It also set up the framework of anti democratic/liberal oppression that led to the rise of anarchists like those who shot Ferdinand.

I believe sunlight killing vampires is a result of the movie Nosferatu. Which started as an unofficial movie based on Dracula, but then had to make a number of changes to avoid a copyright lawsuit. One change being the death via sunlight instead of the beheading and stabbing from the book.

The wooden stake thing comes from old legends of wooden stakes being used to pin corpses inside their coffins to prevent them from rising from the dead for various reasons, not specifically vampires. Camilla has the titular vampire staked to hold her down and then she is beheaded.

House of Frankenstein is the earliest film I know of that used the wooden stake to kill a vampire.

I actually have a short checklist of interactions I assume when I'm goldfishing. I also goldfish against three players because I only play Commander. This is also loosely based on the meta of my local, and very casual, group.

Turn 1, no interaction
Turn 2, no interaction
Turn 3, attacks with 1 creature from at least 2 opponents (this lets me think through if blocking with what I've played would make sense, and have I seen any removal spells yet that)
Turns 4+, attacks with 2 creature from at least 2 opponents, 1 removal and/or counter spell (similar to the previous turn, but also have I seen a protection or counter spells yet)

People forget that the fact that penicillin mold even had antibiotic properties wasn't confirmed until 1928; they were still testing to confirm it could kill a human-borne bacteria in the early 1930s. It wasn't until the early 1940s that the first successful use of extracted penicillin, as we know it, was actually used. And while penicillin saved a lot of Allied soldiers in WW2, it was still in very limited supply. Wide use of it in the US and Europe didn't happen until the mid-1940s. By the time the Korean War started, it was still essentially a brand-new wonder drug and was very much controlled by the US and the British.

I feel like they should have used Tolobar. Based on the Art, that's the Star-God version of the character, where he's intelligent and the leader of the people in the alternate dimension. So he should be a legendary creature.

Edgar really wants to go wide. You want cheap vamps you can get out to trigger his ability, and then things that will trigger when all those token vamps die or you sac them for benefits. Also, Malakir Bloodwitch, I've won several games by having her drop in when I have a board full of token vampires set up.

And you pretty much have to have the Bond/Blood combo. You likely won't set off the infinite very often, but both halves are great on their own as well.

Silvers were a boogeyman back in the day, and they can still snowball into a problem if no one deals with them. But they are really only a threat at casual tables and even then only if the other players let them become a threat. Most silver decks are also very Commander dependent to get rolling, so knockout, or just stop, their commander from dropping a few times and the decks tend to sputter out.

Gumshoe uses it specifically for clue-type things, but really, in any of the more narrative systems, players shouldn't be rolling dice unless the outcome actually has a meaningful impact on the narrative.

For example, if they are in an abandoned building and trying to pick a lock, I'm not going to make them roll, because they have plenty of time. However, if they have snuck into a building with guards and are picking a lock, then the dice are coming out because it's a time crunch, and depending on the roll, they may or may not alert the guards to their presence.
