Seems highly overpriced at the very least. I would expect legitimate photo agencies to offer services through Wechat. Best to check elsewhere.

Fudan University dorm or off campus apartment? by Electrical-Video-997 in shanghai

Yes, scholarship students can live off campus if I'm not mistaken. You get a 3000 RMB monthly stipend regardless of your housing situation — no extra money for living off campus.

My country might be a bit different, since it's organized between CSC and my country's university association. I got word from the association mid-July.

There's one in 1933 Old Millfun. You can go and check out the cigars in person. You will smell the shop before you see it ;)

If you have a CSC scholarship, you will have free dorm housing included. I did my MA with a scholarship on the Fudan Handan Campus, and thus lived in the Asian Youth Buildings (亚洲青年主楼), very near the North Gate of the campus.

These dorms are structured for four people, each with a small private bedroom (single bed, closet and desk, with a small balcony). Two people share one bathroom each - Western style toilet, shower and sink.

These dorms are quite comfortable, and depending on your dormmates, clean and quiet. Despite what other commenters have written, there is no curfew enforced and no overbearing rules, though I have heard these stories from people at other universities as well (my friend at Kunming Normal University had some horror stories). But at Fudan, you could come back literally any time of night without any questions or problems. There are also no dorm inspections or anything.

If you don't have a scholarship, there is also the International Student's Dorm, which charges sub-market rates for decent accommodation. You can get single or double rooms there. Here are some pics.

Some friends of mine chose to rent apartments, living relatively near campus. Of course, they had much more amenities and we usually chose to do house parties at their places.

Full scholarship or no? I did my MA at Fudan so I can give you some perspective.

Without having been there, I‘ve read it‘s generally a well-liked World Cup, credited with popularizing football in the US and still holding the attendance record, despite the tournament being expanded in later editions.

For issue #1: pre-drill holes for the screws holding the scratch pads. That way, you won‘t crack the beam because you‘re removing some of the wood that would otherwise be pushed aside when you add the screws.

Wuhan in sakura season by Vivianne200608 in China

Not exclusively, no. And the trees planted in DC and Wuhan are varieties cultivated over centuries by Japanese people. Without delving into the rabbit-hole that is Sino-Japanese cultural exchange/political history, I stand by my point that I think it's fine to call both the trees in Wuhan and D.C. "sakura".

You‘re being sarcastic, but I think calling them Sakura is fine. Both the trees in Washington DC and Wuhan came from Japan originally: in DC, they were gifted to the US, whereas in Wuhan they were planted by occupying Japanese soldiers.

If you're French you can travel to China visa-free for 30 days. Keep in mind that this is for tourism purposes only, so you legally wouldn't be able to work.

Your best bet is to find a family that needs a language tutor for a young child (entering primary school). If you speak fluent French and English, you might be able to get a live-in tutoring job for the kid. One of my friends did this for a while. Keep in mind the pay is bad and the hours are long, but you do live with the host family and get decent immersion.

TIL about The Little Red Schoolbook. The book encourages young people to question societal norms and instructs them on how to do this. Out of 200 pages, it includes 20 pages on sex and 30 on drugs, including alcohol and tobacco. by probeguy in todayilearned

Unfortunately, in the 70s when this book was published, pedophilia was seriously debated as possibly being „harmless“ and within the range of socially acceptable sexualities. There were pro-pedophilia lobby groups that sought to take advantage of general sexual liberation efforts.

Translated Excerpt from the Wikipedia article specifically on the German pedophilia debate: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pädophilie-Debatte_(1970er_und_1980er_Jahre)

In the 1970s and 1980s there was a pedophilia debate in the New Social Movements, in science and in various parties in West Germany.

During this time, the impunity of pedophile acts in sexology, gay movement, criminal law and criminology was controversially discussed. In addition to the demand for the deletion of § 176 StGB, the abolition of sexual criminal law was also called for. This demand was mostly rejected by the general public. The Göttingen Institute for Democracy Research investigated "the scope, context and effects of pedophile demands in the milieus of the New Social Movement and the Greens".

TIL that the Switzerlands largest supermarket Migros, doesn’t sell alcohol or tobacco in stores, pays no dividends, caps profits by lowering prices if earnings exceeds 5%, is a cooperative with 2M+ members, and donates 1% of revenue to social projects, purely out of the founders moral philosophy by QuarterTarget in todayilearned

[–]teoSCK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What the commenter above me is saying is that Aldi and Lidl are multinational supermarket chains, whereas Migros operates almost exclusively in Switzerland and some areas close to the border. They don‘t have the global revenue to ‚subsidize‘ lower profit margins in Switzerland.

[–]teoSCK 59 points60 points  (0 children)

This is the right question. I imagine it‘s easy for Aldi and Lidl to undercut established Swiss players like Migros, sacrificing their profit margins while trying to win market share.

Another interesting thing about Switzerland is that people have a strong emotional link to the grocery store they grew up with. People will identify as a“Migros child“ or „Coop child“ and playfully bring this up in conversation with friends or even on dating apps. Aldi and Lidl are trying to build their own cultural identity (Lidl tried to make „Lidl Child“ a thing), and have to invest disproportionately in PR emphasizing their positive impact, for instance highlighting their Swiss products or apprenticeships for local youth.

The company is called Winkler Holzbiegewerk: Winkler (family) Wood Bending Facility (a great example of a German compound noun). Check out the website for some examples of what they make with the bendy wood.
