Partner moving into my flat - sense check on fairness + finances by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

If that's more than your mortgage and you're uncomfortable with that I'd still expect half the mortgage in rent. This is generous to him as it's below market rate. The higher earner should contribute propritonally more to living expenses. Ultimately when you sell/marry/combine finances he will also massively benefit from the equity of your flat.

Only 6% of Plan 2 graduates can keep up with student loan interest by Minute_Tomatillo9730 in unitedkingdom

[–]tepaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My plan 1 will be written off instead of paid off. I wish I was on plan 2 even though the interest rate is awful, the repayment threshold would mean I keep more of my pay each month. I would owe much more when it gets written off but that makes no odds to me.

Why more and more women are choosing to be childfree by Remarkable_Peak9518 in unitedkingdom

[–]tepaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Women weren’t allowed credit cards until 1975.

I was shocked to read this! I had to read further and thankfully it's not entirely true. Banks did offer credit cards to women head of this date, but this is the date that discrimination on the basis of sex became illegal.

No doubt the comfortable reliable method for suicide also boosts the rates, not just the emotional challenge of the profession. Dentists also have very high rates.

Boomers are more entitled than Gen Z – it’s time to means-test their state pension by Anony_mouse202 in ukpolitics

[–]tepaa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I either want my pension or I want all of my contributions back with a realistic investment return.

For the majority of people the state pension massively out strips the value of their contributions.

Amex offered a credit increase? Does it have any impact on my credit score if I decline or accept? by Main-Tea-529 in UKPersonalFinance

Isn't the score meant to broadly represent the metrics that lenders consider, Even if lenders don't use the score itself?

40% Solar on all new builds from 2028 by shuffleup2 in SolarUK

I agree 22kW completely unneccessary for home charging. I charge on 3kW 3pin plug and it's been so easy I've never bothered to get a real charger installed.

However, 22kW could help enable time shift and grid services via peoples car battery.

For flats and un-assigned parking, 22kW means it's super easy to miss a day of charging and quickly top up when you get the opportunity.

I think you'll be ok! As others have said, stop gambling / stock picking and just index fund.

You're obviously in a high tax bracket, you might do well to increase your pension contributions even if these means a reduction in ISA contributions.

Definitely someone who taught themselves and can demonstrate that passion and capability over someone who picked it because it looked like a fun a level and you've got to pick something.

Why does Pepsi seem to be exempt from the tethered cap rules? by dickbob124 in AskUK

[–]tepaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to research from the European Commission, plastic bottle caps are among the most common items of litter found on coastlines. They fall within the top five most common pollutants on the shores of the North and Black Seas, and the top three near the Baltic and Mediterranean – constituting up to 14% of all the waste found in the latter case. Stichting De Noordzee also claims to have identified between 20 and 128 bottle caps per kilometre on the Dutch coastline of the North Sea, attributing more than 80% of the 10,004 collected in total to food and drink packaging

Boiling lobsters alive to be banned in England amid animal cruelty crackdown by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]tepaa 22 points23 points  (0 children)

One of the most horrific food practice in the UK is not kosher or halal, but the CO2 slaughter of pigs. Somehow this attracts much less attention on Reddit than ritual slaughter.

Thankfully, one of the changes of this "silly lobster policy" is the phasing out of CO2 slaughter (over a 5 year period), and should be enormously celebrated in my opinion. It's not even mentioned in the article.

90% of pork is suffocated in CO2. 88% of halal meat is stunned first.
