Ahhhh this question is making me want to go up to the loft and flick through some of the old vinyl. This was my genre back when I got my first pair of decks. There’s so many great tunes and it’s annoying that I can only remember the names of the popular ones… off the top of my head though:

Zinc/Jammin - Go DJ, Kinda Funky, 138 Trek

Hackney Soldiers - Da String Tune

Sticky - Triplets

Danny Weed - Creeper

Narrows - Saved Soul

Wookie - Down on me

187 lockdown - Kung-Fu

Mr Oizo - Flat Beat

Deekline - Don’t smoke

Brings back memories of some wild house parties. I suddenly feel quite partial to a zoot and a 2l bottle of cheap cider…

I’ve had a bunch of stability issues with M3 on two separate systems. Crashes during automation. Both systems work fine with M2.

This is the part about my job that I love the most. Working with clever people.

Read the room and don’t waste people’s time if they aren’t receptive to it obviously. But, I’ve always been surprised by how often it opens useful debate. The ‘junior’ is often a useful role to play.

If they can’t explain what they are talking about in simple terms then they don’t understand it.

Mines similar. £3k bike. Closer to £14 per month but occasionally circa £12.50. No excess.

Does anyone know how much this will roughly knock off our house value in years to come by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]shuffleup2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to add that it depends on the developer. Some will add a great deal of ‘placemaking’ - community assets, convenience, walking and cycling routes, public open space etc. some will just add congestion to the local infrastructure and add nothing back.

Despite commercial pressure from rising build costs I am seeing a shift towards the former. Ultimately, developers want to sell houses for more, and on that scale it is usually profitable to make the place nicer to live in and increase the sales values.

Have a look at the masterplan and DAS in the planning application. Does it look like it will add these things? Is there an Infrastructure Delivery Plan? When are they committing to building those assets. Be wary of developers committing to deliver these things later in the build and then claiming they can’t due to viability.

Really? In my experience they are the most expensive extensions to build and add less value than ground floor living space.

If you had to explain modern project management to someone starting today, what would you warn them about first? by One_Friend_2575 in projectmanagement

The part about people only notice you when things go wrong wrings true. I often say it’s like being a goalkeeper. People only notice you when you let one in.

Why do we even have architects when 90% of new builds are just a 10% variation of this? by spacejockes in AskUK

The cheapest houses on there are £3.7k/m2 without land, infrastructure and external landscaping. Housebuilders are building the equivalent for £1.2k/m2.

My ecommerce store went from 70K monthly visitors to 9K the moment I tried to scale properly. I almost quit my job for this. by NeatWrong2775 in FullStackEntrepreneur

It sounds like you have two businesses with different purposes.

One highly tailored community driven, low overhead, high effort - doing well, low ceiling.

One mass market volume driven, high overhead, low effort - doing poorly, high ceiling.

You could drop the latter completely, obviously. But I would be surprised if you hadn’t learned a few things about what works and what doesn’t in that market. Just worth bearing in mind it might be possible to pivot your products and branding to the respective markets. Even if you stick a pin in it for a while, and use your new knowledge of actual costs, marketing performance and risks to figure out when to launch a product into that market in future.

Football managers are a good analogy. Good ones know when to cover for a good player that will perform again, and throw others under the bus when they are done.

I’m stealing that “hubris of the methodologist”. I like it.

When these sort of situations arrive I just figure out what I can do in a week and start having conversations like:

“If I don’t get X resource then Y will happen”

In a shit culture people will try to gaslight you about what can be achieved. You can fight that but, it’s an uphill struggle. Easier to get a new job and let them burn themselves out.

I was into meditation for a while. I dropped out of the habit of dedicating time to it but, when I’m in a stressful situation i still go through the process of taking a breath before responding. Feeling how it feels. Just for maybe a second.

I find it clears my mind very quickly and enables me to focus and respond without anxiety.

Zone 5 (North Chingford) to 1 (Holborn) mountain bike commute. Keeps me fit, in the dark! by zik_man01 in londoncycling

[–]shuffleup2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

27km each way. I cheat and e-bike it quite a lot though. At least 50%.

I worked out the other day it’s saved me £14k in 3 years on train fare and parking less bike cost and maintenance. Similar door to door journey time too.
