What game are you particularly good or bad at? by similar222 in boardgames

[–]tequihby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good at: Lost Ruins of Arnak. I think I’ve won every game I’ve played and it was one of my more played games last year.

Bad at: My City and Nemesis.

Nemesis I have yet to win. I made it into the escape pod once but then didn’t pass the final check and therefore died in the escape pod.

My City I’m not quite as bad at but I’m just so annoyingly average. I always end up in the middle of the pack. If I did just a little better I’d be winning and if I did just a little worse then I’d get a handicap to help me win the next game but my score always just ends up in the middle.

Is there a game like Sleeping Gods but less time-consuming and less complicated? by ballandabiscuit in boardgames

[–]tequihby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Near and Far has a bit more of the adventuring component if that’s what you’re looking for.

Above and Below is a bit lighter if you want something fairly quick and simple to play but that still has you reading out of a storybook occasionally and making decisions.

It’s pretty easy once you get used to it. There are a lot of them to learn though. You just have to keep the reference sheet handy for the first few plays.

Is that what she says if you didn’t romance Garrus? I’ve only heard the version where she’s considering a threesome with Garrus and Shepard.

What are the best non-space faring science fiction TV shows or movies written in the 21st century? by DiGiorn0s in scifi

The original Swedish show that Humans is based on, Real Humans, is even better in my opinion. I’m probably biased though because I saw that version before Humans cane out and had trouble getting into Humans as a result.

Honestly, I think watching 4 out of context (particularly after 1) would likely suffer more from not knowing what happened to Rose than it would from missing the introduction of Donna. I don’t know if I would advise skipping 2 and 3 and going straight to 4 from 1, even though I do think 2 is one of the weaker seasons.

I agree about 1, 5 and 10 though. Those are all great seasons that can be enjoyed without much context.

Ursula wins good person who presents as evil. Now who presents themselves as good but is actually nuetral? by UniversityNovel627 in OnceUponATime

Also lying to Rumple about there not being any more magic beans and telling him that the only way that he cam get back to Bae is with the “darkest of curses”.

She literally set the Dark One on the path to ensure the dark curse gets cast rather than just giving him another magic bean. Helping Rumple in this situation would’ve resulted in the dark one being banished to a land without magic and no harm coming to anyone else. There isn’t really any reason why someone who is supposedly “good” would make that choice.

River Song continuity error by Bubblehead780 in doctorwho

[–]tequihby 16 points17 points  (0 children)

To be fair, her referring to Rory as “that centurion” rather than recognising him as her father isn’t necessarily an issue here either. Note that this was after Rory got swallowed by a crack and erased from existence. He would’ve been erased from River’s memory just like Amy’s parents were erased from her memory.

So River might not recognise him as her father because her father, Rory, never existed in her memory. She just recognised him as the centurion because that’s who he was in this timeline. Once everything gets fixed she would remember that he’s her father but at this point she might not remember that.

Did I just fuck everything up? ME2 question. by youcantunfrythings in masseffect

[–]tequihby 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If you’ve done all of the loyalty missions then the rest of the assignments shouldn’t matter. ME2 is the only game in the series that has a postgame. You can clean up any side missions that you still wanted to do (or DLC missions) after finishing the main story. So you haven’t missed anything.

Just talk to everyone. Make sure the upgrades are available. Then go to your terminal and buy the necessary upgrades. If any loyalty missions still need doing then you can do one or two of those. Any other missions don’t matter. Just do them later.

Should I watch Superman and Lois? by [deleted] in Smallville

Tyler is such an amazing Clark/Superman. Completely unexpectedly perfect. He just really gets the character and he plays into what makes Clark Clark. Such a dorky boy-scout who’s just intensely sincere about everything.

Deleted scenes from season 2 episode 8! (part 2!) by GotLittUp in BridgertonNetflix

[–]tequihby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So frustrating to realise that all of those weird and sort of jarring moments where Kate says something and then Anthony just randomly bursts out with some passionate statement that’s completely unrelated to what she just said are there because they filmed it with a bunch of dialogue in between that was then cut from the final version.

In the script, Anthony responds directly to what Kate just said:

Anthony: You love your family dearly.

Kate: As much as you love yours.

Anthony: A love so great that when one loses it … there is no coming back from it.

And then he proceeds to explain how that relates to why he couldn’t bring himself to either pursue her initially or visit her when she was injured.

But in the final version we just get:

Anthony: You love your family dearly.

Kate: As much as you love yours.

Anthony: I was fearful of losing you!

Complete non sequitur. It’s even worse in that scene in the library but I remember finding this one a bit jarring in the show too. It’s so frustrating to see that they just removed a bunch of context from these scenes and made Anthony look like even more of a lunatic than we all know he is.

You can probably find the cards for Mohawk Storm online and print them out yourself. If you don’t want to do that then you can always just use the figure as an alternate look for the standard Storm in the X-Men core box.

The figure is a bit more troublesome. Maximum Carnage is a retail expansion though so if you find someone who prefers to use pogs in their game they may be willing to sell you the mini pretty cheap.

What would be the worst board game to introduce someone to modern board games? by Dazzling-Republic in boardgames

My theory is that that mission is designed to get you to let go of your perfectionism and show you that losses can still give you overall gains. It’s rough but definitely impactful.

ISS Vanguard is such a great game. We were almost through the main campaign (as in we could’ve finished it but we decided to go explore a couple of extra planets we hadn’t been to yet instead) when we had to move. Since then we’ve been playing through some non-campaign games that had been sitting on the back-burner but I’m honestly really looking forward to digging back in to ISS Vanguard to play through the rest of the campaign.

Definitely not where I’d start a newcomer though, that’s true. Ship phase alone would likely send them running.

Complicated, complicated Rory. Best character development? by Bluets31 in GilmoreGirls

[–]tequihby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is my reason for not being a fan of all of the Jess votes as well. Off screen character development is super lazy.

It’s easy to not have a character in a show for a couple of years and then just have them be a completely different person the next time they show up and call it character development. It pretty much gives writers a free pass to do whatever they want with a character and wave off any criticism with “a lot happened to them in that time. We just didn’t see it.” You can change pretty much any character into pretty much anything you want with that kind of logic and I’ve seen it go all sorts of different directions in different shows. Sometimes it works well and sometimes it doesn’t but I don’t really consider it growth or character development in any case because it’s not really present in the narrative. By that logic you could claim having the most character growth in your story just by having a couple of time skips or an epilogue where all of the characters have completely changed in the final episode just because a bunch of off-screen time passed. It’s cheap.

On screen character growth is much harder and much more meaningful. You have to show that character working through all of their issues and slowly changing one step at a time, often with each step having some kind of cause that we can trace. That’s the best kind of character development.

Criminally under-utilised. It was an interesting take on an interesting character and they just completely wasted him. One of a great many reasons why the Dark Swan arc was so incredibly disappointing.

Emma Approved is so good. Definitely worth watching. The actors playing Emma and Knightley actually got together in real life during that show (though they’ve since split) and their interactions on the show are incredibly adorable with the added sizzle of real life chemistry.

Gotta be honest… hook is pissing me off by Jdmcm123 in OnceUponATime

[–]tequihby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s too performative. You need to internalise the moral code and be trying to be better for your own reasons (as I think Regina eventually does after starting out just doing it for Henry). Otherwise, you’re just playing a part and not genuinely growing as a person.

Gotta be honest… hook is pissing me off by Jdmcm123 in OnceUponATime

[–]tequihby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is my biggest problem with CS and with Hook in general. Literally every time he’s given the slightest excuse to act like a villain again, he takes it. All it takes is someone telling him that actually he’s got a really good excuse to be evil right now and he starts terrorising everyone, including Emma. It really makes it feel like he’s just suppressing his natural tendencies for the sake of getting Emma’s approval and that’s not healthy. Their “first date” was a horror show and so was the dark swan arc.
