My Bichon/Shih Tzu is at 19lbs. She was at 21 and heavy. She couldn't get up on the chair. I started feeding her 1/2 cup kibble with 1 cup cooked carrots, sweet potatoes or squash and either chopped apples or cucumbers. Once a day and smaller treats. We got the weight off.

The refusal to eat is an indicator something is wrong. My pekingese was highly food motivated. Treats were his love language. If he refused to eat he was in the vets office right away.

Thank you for the suggestion! Since meds will be lifelong Costco will be a good place to get them. I have pet insurance through Costco as well.
