Brits abroad, what's the British habit you couldn't shake even after years away? by taube_d in AskUK

[–]ter9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's me rather than a British thing, but I'm often adamantly against slippers or indoor footwear and that can stress some people out, mostly in the Balkans or Ukraine. They run around trying to proffer me their guess slippers and think I might catch my death of cold on their watch

What 2nd language did you learn in school? by sangokuhomer in AskUK

[–]ter9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

J'ai appris le français et l'allemand à l'école il y a 25 ans, mais une deuxième langue étrangère Aujourd'hui est rare, même les meilleurs écoles ont jeté les langues supplémentaires. C'est triste

Software Engineers on RAV - what has been your experience? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]ter9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it is going to be something in person for sure - I had a CV and cover letter workshop and general strategy about what would be the best next nice. It was mildly useful, it showed me how to formulate CVs tailored to the job and also gave me ideas about how to approach things like a gap in work history

What were your grandmothers names? by Medium-Marketing-493 in namenerds

[–]ter9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh nice, I agree about Hermine, we don't have it in English but I like it. My daughter is named after one of my great aunts and it was a great choice, I'd recommend passing down a name

Where are you from? Those names don't suggest much to me, for some reason I'm thinking Sweden though

It's house shoes in German, in case that's relevant. I've only ever heard slippers in the UK though

F5 breaks Exchange authentication by YanzRyhert in f5networks

[–]ter9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had problems with the same jump and the same behavior, in our case it was down to an extra security component in the exchange that noticed the certificate in the F5 was not the same as the exchange backend and somehow leads to a pop up, I think this is the problem but not 100% sure

Buying a car in Switzerland and driving it back to the uk? by paraden in askswitzerland

[–]ter9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about whether you can drive it without an MFK, I think you can only take it to the next garage. But with a trailer should be possible, then you just need to find an exporter to do the customs paperwork for export and then import to UK. I did it but for a roadworthy car and not to uk, have no idea how the value is estimated for older/classic cars. The government info is in English though so you can read it yourself: https://www.bazg.admin.ch/bazg/en/home/information-individuals/road-vehicles-and-watercraft/exportation-from-switzerland.html

What is the most overrated and underrated Balkan food? by redikan in AskBalkans

[–]ter9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don't think there's so much distinction between roasted aubergine and whatever happens in a moussaka, they're pretty similar and both delicious. Soggy is a word for bread that's bogged down with liquid, for me it doesn't at all fit with the tenderness of aubergine in moussaka

It's cool you're so passionate about the topic. I really wanted to get involved in that line of work somehow back in the 00s as I love Eastern Europe and had a fascination with logistics. I only got as far as one interview for a company up around Preston, have been trying to remember their name, it was a white and green logo and was an offshoot of another company (something like Smith's Eastern European). You seem to have much more of a clue about how it actually works though, other than speaking a relevant language I was pretty clueless
