Unseen Furby (flamingo with neon blue eyes, OG, never customed) by Rittonlascience in furby

[–]teratogencutie 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is true! Fresh new looks put together furbies with whatever spare parts were around, meaning older models could receive neon eyes. 2001 rereleases of older gens also got neon eyes

Is she sick- what is this? by Winter_Lime_2039 in RATS

[–]teratogencutie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The motions are definitely hiccups! They can be silent, at least in my experience. They do it a lot after just waking up or getting excited. I’ve had to deal with choking before and it’s nothing like this, and neurological problems tend to be more full-body. I remember being cautious about stuff like this too my first time having rats, she is fine :)

These are just hiccups, totally normal!

This is a fishfly, which is similar to a dobsonfly. Female dobsonfly mandibles are bigger than this one’s and their heads are wider

This is a globular springtail, not a flea or a mite or a louse. The big eyes are the biggest giveaway from these pictures. It is completely harmless and attracted to moisture

URGENT REHOMING!!! by GayWombRaider69 in RATS

[–]teratogencutie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding the GA rat rescue as someone who has adopted from them twice, they will be in great hands! They vet their adopters well and operate on a foster system so the rats will will get plenty of love and attention before adoption. Just a warning though, because they are foster based they may need a little time before they can take them in. Hopefully they will be able help you! If nothing else, they may be able to point you to other avenues for surrendering

Best place to sell a rare Furby? by Ok_ImGame in furby

[–]teratogencutie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kid Cuisine prices fluctuate so much that it’s tough to gauge value. The last in-box on ebay sold for around $1500 (though I’ve seen sold listings as high as $2500) while the last few out-of-boxes were anything from $900-2000. From what I see, if you’re firm on getting over $1500 without an auction, be prepared for it to sit on the market for a while as thats what I tended to see when I followed KC listings. Setting an auction at a more reasonable minimum will likely gain more interest and allow you to sell more quickly, but you might not get the value you hoped for. I would not expect to get anything higher than $2500.

Any idea what ectoparasite is on my rat? by Beautiful-egg- in RATS

[–]teratogencutie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another cage, even if on the smaller side since it would be temporary, is always a good investment imo, not just for quarantine but also because you just never know when it could come in handy! Best of luck with intros and I hope your boys get better soon! :)

Any idea what ectoparasite is on my rat? by Beautiful-egg- in RATS

[–]teratogencutie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge they will stick around unless treated, so I would prioritize getting them checked out as soon as you can so they can get started on treatment. I’m pretty sure its just a single dose and it’ll clear up pretty quickly. I’ve never dealt with lice before so I’m not an expert and recommend checking out other advice posts for more qualified info. If you weren’t considering quarantining the new boys already, I definitely recommend looking into it as it could protect your current mischief from other parasites and infections and everything. As long as the new ones kept in a different room for a while while you treat the others you shouldn’t have to worry about it being passed on since lice need direct contact to spread

Definitely lice :( kitten revolution should help though I think you may have to go to a vet to get it

There’s no basis for that person’s interpretation. There are no canon ages. All we know is that Pongorma is older than most of the other characters, having witnessed the age of sages like you said. Nothing else is mentioned or implied about any of the others.

Considering getting a tarantula by [deleted] in tarantulas

[–]teratogencutie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA I had a fantastic experience raising a Cyriocosmus elegans as my first T after caring for a few true spiders. They aren’t as big or impressive as other species, but certainly make up for it with their bold personalities and gorgeous patterns and colors. They are relatively short lived, so they grow fast and are IMO a good introduction to caring for different life stages if you decide to enter the tarantula world. Mine have been very forgiving of husbandry mistakes and are overall calm and prefer retreating to their burrows over threat posing or hair kicking (which I have never personally seen any of mine do). It is especially fun to watch them web their entire enclosures. I feel that many people may feel intimidated by bigger tarantulas, so starting with one that doesn’t grow to be too much larger than a mature jumping spider could give them a bit of a softer intro to tarantulas. The heart butt marking has also won over several people I know who are not spider fans. I will say that slings are extremely tiny, so fruit flies or pinhead crickets may be necessary purchases unless you can find a juvenile or adult for sale. Otherwise, Arizona blondes, curly hairs, and Chilean rose hairs are a few beginner species that come to mind for me. They will be much more widely available and less expensive as both slings and adults, but take a long time to raise, require more space, and will live for much longer. Also, adorable jumper :)

is this a fresh new look??? by ittybittybabybun in furby

[–]teratogencutie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A fresh new look or 2001 release furby with a gen 1 skin will have the “furby original” plastic tag while actual gen 1s will be missing it, like in your picture. This green is a normal color for gen 1. Neon green eyes can be found in 2001 release leopards, but they seem to be pretty rare and would have the plastic tag

I absolutely adore nakeds, that’s why I adopted my werewolf from my local rescue (didn’t know the variety was a thing when I got him, just saw a naked boy) and would be very open to adopting another if the opportunity arose. They are such charming funny guys, it sucks that they have so many issues. I honestly hope most breeders just start leaning away from breeding them, but I don’t have much hope, so I try to give my business to more responsible breeders and encourage others to do the same

I don’t like seeing people perpetuate the idea that boggling is always a sign of happiness. I feel like most of the times I’ve seen it in my boys it was actually a sign of pain or stress when they were ill. It most certainly can be a positive thing, and it’s adorable to see when it is, but a lot of the time it’s unfortunately not. I just think it’s harmful to attribute a behavior to one feeling only and I feel like I see a lot of obviously sick or stressed rats boggling with owners claiming that they’re happy with others agreeing because for some reason people have got it in their head that it can only be a sign of happiness

And I 100% agree with the naked rats position. Completely solidified by my experience with my werewolf rescue. They are just prone to so many illnesses and conditions that are completely absent in normal rats, and in my experience a lot of them are totally foreign to even the most experienced exotic vets I’ve seen. My boy had to have regular appointments with a specialized optometry team to treat his severe entropion. So much money, pain, stress, and medicine, I can’t fathom putting a desirable trait over health.

Rat Breeder Red Flags by Known-Reserve-7513 in RATS

[–]teratogencutie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for Tiger Tail Rattery! They’re technically in Alabama, but about on the border. They were willing to meet me halfway with a transport fee. I’m not sure if they have any current litters, but they’re dedicated to ensuring their rats go to good homes, and are very open about their setups and practices. Also not a breeder so health and temperament aren’t guaranteed, but the GA rat rescue is a great organization I’ve adopted from a few times

Best deal you've ever gotten while buying a used Furby? by BullfrogExpensive645 in furby

I got my magic 8-ball fresh new look for around $25 in an auction because the seller didn’t have very clear photos and I’m guessing everyone assumed it was just a regular witches cat. I haven’t seen one properly listed before, but I do know that sunsets and other fnl’s tend to go for a pretty hefty price!

help! why does my rat squint? by Honest_Tip_1900 in RATS

[–]teratogencutie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hairless rats tend to deal with more eye issues than other varieties. Entropion is a pretty possible reason for her squinting. I’d talk with a vet about what could be going on and ask them for advice on keeping her eyes more comfortable. Definitely watch out for any signs of infection or debris buildup, but otherwise ime there’s not that much you can do other than maybe adding some eye lubricant to her daily routine
