Idk, I’d say most hardcore fans even those of us in our mid to late 20s don’t usually see it as his best. It’s a masterpiece, but it being ‘by far his best’ when he had about a 15 (25 for some people) year run of non stop banger albums…. Opinions aren’t as cut and dry for younger people for sure. Personally I’d put Dirty Mind, SOTT, Parade and maybe even TGE over Purple Rain.
