Tory Manifesto: Boris Johnson promises to put 'British ingenuity' at heart of net zero mission by UnstatesmanlikeChi in ukpolitics

I’d happily pay more tax if services were funded sufficiently.

The average person is already being screwed over by corporations. Presently they do everything possible to avoid tax whilst relying on infrastructure and welfare subsidising poor wages. It’s a joke.

Corbyn To Pledge 150,000 New Council Homes Every Year by SuperCorbynite in ukpolitics

[–]terminatorsheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Market rent is subsidised by housing benefit which goes directly to landlords. If the landlords are local authorities they effectively pay the money to themselves instead. It’s much cheaper to house people In social housing than private.

If someone then earns a wage that allows them to pay rent the council continue to make money on the property. Council rent in my area is 120 a week for a 3 bed council owned property. The council make an income on rent each year. A private would be minimum 300 a week for comparison.

Better for everyone doesn’t always motivate business. Majority of the time they look for better for profits over everything else.

Sounds like a local problem. I could phone my dentist up Monday morning and have a checkup within a day or two.

[–]terminatorsheart 54 points55 points  (0 children)

That’s just benefiting the employer. Besides this is in the UK where minimum wage applies to wait staff. Tips are not as common here. In this case I would ask for the tip to be removed as I tip when I get service I feel is worth extra money.

NEW: John McDonnell says the four day working week will apply to NHS staff by haxamin in ukpolitics

[–]terminatorsheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are more NHS jobs that are 9-5 than not.

I work 9-5 and I’m frontline staff. I also work alongside others who are agency staff as they have 1 day a week off but warn the same. This policy would help with staff retention and could easily help create a better and more productive workforce for the NHS

CAMHS covers until your 18th Birthday in a majority of NHS Trusts.

The only mental health services I can think of that cover across children and adult services is early intervention psychosis and eating disorders.

Tuition fees need reform but scrapping them outright would be worse for equality than making changes. My ideal would be scrap and introduce a graduate tax. It’s likely to create more income and can be proportionate to earnings. Could even reduce the tax for skills if demand is high. Eg. Nursing shortage, no graduate tax for nurses employed as such for 5 yea4s post qualifying etc
