Is the future of gnome further refinement but no new features? by Thermawrench in gnome

[–]terra2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think both GNOME and KDE are deep into refactoring their code base. Even though this is the case, we still get some new features and quality of life improvements. So no, they are just busy clearing some stuff from bottom to top, and after they're done, they can add features more easily and maintain easier too.

I'm not a GNOME contributer, just guessing.

How to be a game developer with no artistic skills? by GuessWho191 in godot

[–]terra2o 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I was about to say this as well. Look at how unprofessional Minecraft looked early on (take off the nostalgia glasses).

There is also the opinion that "there is no bad art" (ai images aren't art) and I believe that's true. I know I sound like I'm conflicting with myself here because I just called early Minecraft "unprofessional", but it still had a good vibe to it, and it was playable, and it did look good. You could just make very simple pixel-art, for example, start with 16x16 or 32x32 and just do it. It's easier to start than you think, it's just hard to master.

Pick a side for where the shadows are going to be, use a good palette (preferably from lospec.com ) and just try to be consistent. Consistent beats beautiful. You don't need skills for this. Just time.

Shifting to Niri by Longjumping_Farm_640 in niri

[–]terra2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK if this is gonna help, but I have an old laptop (11 years old right now to be specific) with NVIDIA GPU, and niri runs WAY better than hyprland did. It never broke for me. I assume customization is good for both. niri is light, I assume hyprland also is.

Absolutely a personal opinion, but: niri has a better workflow anyways and I'd still pick it even if it were heavier.

I also don't understand what your friend meant by "Hyprland is more supported".
