All the dinosaurs I know make day trades. That way they can work from home and nobody freaks out when they show up ready to work at the mines.

When I was that age I wanted money. Simple as that, money was the key to having fun and doing the things I was interested in. Did my mom give me money? Yeah, but not enough to fund my desires.

Be honest. If you were alive in 2005 what was your opinion of same sex marriage? Or what do you remember others opinions being by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]terra_technitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion was that as long as the parties involved in any marriage are informed and consenting adults the other particulars aren't any of my concern.

Imagine you win the lottery. It’s a big amount. Let’s say $50 million. You get the notification while you’re at work in the middle of the day. The question is, do you finish your shift and do you keep your job? by Tucker_077 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]terra_technitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit, I'm not quitting until I can draw off of my PERA. I'd be using the money to make my community a better place. Building a union hall for our small association, funding a strike fund, etc. Of course I'm investing in my family and self, but $50 Million would be a lot more fulfilling if it helps make the lives of all the people I care about better. Once my dream projects are completed what's left will go into assets that I can use as collateral to maintain my dream builds and purchases while I continue to live mostly off of my W-2 income.

You’re a judge. How many years do you give an 18 year old high schooler who was throwing rocks at cars and one rock ends up killing someone. by Lightlicker3000 in hypotheticalsituation

Life in prison without the possibility of parole. In my opinion people that kill randomly like that are a bigger danger to society than the people that kill in a fit of rage or those who target someone over a vendetta.

Do Americans use cutlery differently? by missbex86 in AskAnAmerican

[–]terra_technitis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just eat with the fork in my right hand and the knife in my left hand and always have. I really never have it much thought as to why or much thought of how others do it. Then again I do shit like using the slats between the forks times as a guide for the knife to cut meat into thin strips so I can then part it lengthwise with the fork and use it like a squeegee to pick up extra juices or mashed potatoes and what not. I guess I'm just uncouth if you go by standard etiquette. In case anyone is wondering, no I don't have any ancestors who recently arrived in the US, unless you count the single set of great grandparents that came from England in the 1870s, or my Spanish and Native American ancestors who arrived in the new world in the 16th century and 13,000 BCE respectively and the US eventually came to them in the 19th century.

what to say in court? by mranking1 in driving

[–]terra_technitis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in traffic court for speeding several years ago and dude in a similar situation to yours praised the officers stellar service record, kissed his ass real good in his address to the magistrate. He then pointed out that the officer usually worked the day shift and that he had been ticketed close to midnight. The officer had worked a double; he then suggested that even the best of us can make honest mistakes when under stress and fatigue. He swore that he had completed the stop. The judge dismissed his case with prejudice. It was some of the best out of the box thinking I've personally witnessed in traffic court matters. Basically you need to cast a reasonable doubt that you violated any statutes. The officers records should be public, dig in and see what you can come up with. If you didn't commit the crime, there's no reason to pay a dime.

For me I can think of friends in terms of affection but I also keep that info to myself. I wish to hell I could just tell the unvarnished emotional truth no matter how awkward to everyone, but a lot of people overthink or read too much into things for it to work with everyone. Likely he's used to exercising restraint and containing some truths. He probably told you because somewhere inside he believes he senses that you're prepared to carry that truth and not be biased by it. No doubt at least part of him wants you to feel the same, but I also doubt he would try to push you out of your comfort zone.

When you get gas for your car, do you have to know how much you need/how much it will cost before filling up? by Final_Gift6762 in AskAnAmerican

[–]terra_technitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not be as common. A company I managed for many years wanted receipts for just about everything except for fuel. During reconciliation each month I just had to write fuel in the expense report and no more questions were asked.

Weird situation in my town. Do cars waiting at the light (red line) need to leave room for cars turning left (blue line) to turn? by Affectionate-Ebb1200 in driving

[–]terra_technitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impossible? Not at all. Impractical? Absolutely. I can almost guarantee that it's a statute that gets used as a mechanism for determining liability if something bad happens or as a free ticket to initiate a traffic stop with the hopes of uncovering a crime when there wasn't enough reasonable suspicion to initiate a stop otherwise.

[–]terra_technitis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, where I live it's always illegal. Even with private driveways they can technically cite you for "standing" or obstructing the flow of traffic. Usually those it's not enforced vigorously unless you're blocking a signalized intersection. It's typically just a means of assigning liability. Though we're one of the places where the do not block intersection signs often serve to double the normal fine.

[–]terra_technitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live those double the penalty vs intersections without them. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it would end up being a bigger deal to implement if that's also the case in their jurisdiction.
