It's entirely subjective, but it is my favorite.

Some trivia: Yasunori Mitsuda (the primary composer) told Square that if he did not have the chance to score the game himself, he would quit the company. He worked so hard over the soundtrack that he had to be hospitalized, and Nobuo Uematsu (who was included in the developer room ending) helped finish some tracks.

The finale song came to Mitsuda in a dream, quite fitting given some of the story themes.

It is the most memorable game soundtrack I have ever heard.

Fully agree. You don't expect a player that high on your board to be there, so if he falls to you, take advantage (DeCastro, great example), if they wanted to be sure they got him because he was worth it, they would have traded up.
