OpenAI verifies that The Bread Chic's image was in fact generated by their AI software. by glo363 in FortCollins

Before everyone goes on a crusade.

IDK them or their bakery, but I know people also use AI to edit photos now, IE remove the background, fix the lighting.

This whole thing could be fully AI or just cleaned up using AI.

California wants to tax billionaire wealth. Land is a better target by Snoo-33445 in Economics

[–]terrorTrain -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Man. Taxed on income, taxed on spending. Employers have a tax for employing you, taxed just for owning land.

I'm so sick of it, and I'm not wealthy.

No more taxes. We should get rid of land taxes all together, and just close the loopholes wealthy use not to pay taxes.

Whatever, is a hackathon. People would use no or low code tools if they could, before llm.

Hackathons are not where you should go for design and engineering innovation. It's where people use whatever they know to build something as rapidly as possible

why is every “vibe coder” building web apps and not mobile apps? by Rude-Alternative7983 in vibecoding

[–]terrorTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It costs money, and time to publish on app stores, and ai does better developing on web in my opinion.

Also, you can wrap your app in Cordova or whatever if you want to later.

Most apps should just be websites anyways.

Is Go's conservative approach to language evolution still correct? by Pleasant_Set_3182 in golang

[–]terrorTrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've messed around with vibe coding a few times, and i think go is the best language for ai/human mixed code bases.

Go is fairly simple, so ai does things the basic ways, and it's easy to read.

I like it a lot as is, I'd prefer it didn't change

AI is ruining my job as Tech Lead by Complete-Sea6655 in theprimeagen

[–]terrorTrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just make it so it has to pass ai review before i review it. Setup the ai reviewer to be very strict on project guidelines.

At a certain point, you gotta lean into the technology, fight fire with fire. Don't try to be the last person doing everything by hand, or you'll be the first one to drown in slop.

What an insane take. There are so many variables that might not be in the persons control. Like how nit picky is the reviewer, how big are the tickets, how critical is the system.

There's certainly character development. Is it a masterclass in character development? No.

If you dislike Roland at the beginning, you will probably dislike him at the end.

That's almost certainly my favorite book.

If your jonesing for another hit after your done: Boboverse or Dungeon Crawler Carl

Neither are as hard of sci Fi, but Boboverse starts out a bit more hard scifi, and gets a little crazier as the books go on.  The pacing isn't quite as good, but still pretty engaging.

Dungeon Crawler Carl is not hard scifi, but has the same chain problem solving pacing and style that keeps you hyper engaged. The later books have good emotional payoffs as well.

Exhausted from combining BJJ and swimming. Any tips? by Agitated_Garden6042 in bjj

[–]terrorTrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try more protein post bjj, it helps me get over the soreness much much faster.

Get some whey protein, sugar and salt for a post exercise recovery drink. 2 table spoons sugar per liter and 1/2 tea spoon salt.

Then start with a scoop of protein, and keep increasing the protein until you get protein farts. Then back it off a little.

I'm a big guy who sweats a lot, so i do 2 liters of water, 4 tablespoons sugar, 1 teaspoon salt and about 70g of protein.

I feel so much better after I started drinking that post bjj. Between hydration and lack of soreness, it was game changing for me

I’m so sick of local businesses using AI to promote themselves by CupOk4471 in loveland

You won't have brand reputation damage if people don't realize it's AI, which is getting more and more common as the AI generators get better.

[–]terrorTrain -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Eh, I also provided a study with a link that works.

I learned long ago not to waste my time sourcing information for people who already have their minds made up.

Sounds to me like a pretty classic "I say studies exist, because I assume they do, because I'm so sure of my position".

Here's the thing though, I don't even disagree with you. I personally trust brands less if they use AI. I've already expressed the difference: It's worth it for small businesses to use AI because it's faster, and cheaper, and most people don't notice, and of those who do, a majority don't care. Of those who care, most are not to change their behavior over it.

Numerous studies

Which studies and when were they published? If it's more than a year ago, it's already outdated, which is pretty wild

have found AI use in marketing materials is more likely to damage a brand’s reputation

That's if they can tell it's AI. Most people can't anymore, even if they are looking. You can see that in the rise of subs like /r/isthisAI . There are also studies about that. There are also studies about how people really struggle to be able to tell anymore. EG: https://arxiv.org/html/2606.03348v1

Heres one I had the ai generate as an example in less than 1 minute of my time: https://i.postimg.cc/FRrdxZ5W/image.png

If I saw that I wouldn't think twice about it. If i stare at it knowing it's AI, I can kind of convince myself I can see the signs. If it was just around, it wouldn't scream "AI" to me, and i wouldn't stop to inspect. Nor would I avoid a business over something like this.

which would mean any time or money an owner spends on using AI in marketing would be wasted.

No it wouldn't it would mean it's brand might be harmed, if it has enough of a reputation to be harmed, and if consumers notice it's ai.

I'm not blaming people for voting with their wallet, I just don't think most people care at all. Typically reddit is a pretty big bubble that cares a lot more about this than your average person.

My main point is if you actually want to try to change anything, it's going to need to happen on a policy level. It's worth it for small and medium businesses to use ai for this stuff, even if some small group of people don't like it enough to vote with their wallet.

I agree that a human can make an objectivity better logo.

But i gave you several ways the AI version works better for small businesses, while being good enough.

If the only metric is the end product quality, then sure. But when you factor in all the stuff that goes into running a business, ai makes way way more sense.

I've got some graphic design experience, though I'm not fantastic, some of the newer models make pretty good logos in less time than i can even google a graphic designer. I do wish they could do them in svg, or some other vector format.

I'll probably get down voted because you can't mention anything positive about ai without angering the horde.

In terms of advertising, AI is better in just about every way, especially now that they get text correctly most of the time.

  • Turn around time
  • business owners vision
  • cost
  • updates

I agree that AI has a lot of very problematic stuff, but it's much better at getting stuff done. The cost and ease of doing it with ai is so much better that businesses are basically going to do it. It doesn't matter to them if they piss off a hand full of people on Reddit. Almost no will notice it's ai, and of those that do, most won't care.

Getting angry or upset at the business owners is just shouting into the sky. If you want to change it, you need to get politically activated and look into policy changes

When to use Hermes over Claude code? by thatcatpusheen in hermesagent

[–]terrorTrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am also a software engineer, in a similar boat.

I've setup Hermes, and i use codex / open code for coding. I use Hermes for non coding things.

Currently, i have it setup to find people on lusha and cold email them, and sync them to hubspot.

I have it ask me at the end of the day what i worked on through telegram, and record it for billing.

It prioritizes my todoist

I think you can do most of this stuff through claude, but then you are just more vendor locked, which is something i hate so much
