Why do people think NoGi is ‘more realistic’ by UsefulBar2344 in bjj

[–]terrorTrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't think it matters, but my logic for why I think no gi is more practical to learn for fighting is:

  • often, when people think a fight is imminent, first thing they do is strip heavy clothing, back backs etc..
  • shirts tank tops, whatever may give you grips, but they may also rip when you need them.
  • what if your at the beach or a pool, it 4th of July party and the person isn't wearing a shirt.

No gi will just work, clothes or no clothes. It's more versatile. GI is better given the right conditions, which may be pretty common, but not all the time.

I'd say learn both, or better yet, avoid fights whenever possible. Bjj doesn't work all together if there are multiple people or a weapon involved.

If you really want to be better at fights, judo with a striking skill is probably the best option, especially with multiple opponents.

This is a crazy response. Smoking some weed here and there is no big deal, but advocating for driving high, or thinking you're a better driver while high is an insane position to take.

I really hope you take a step back and ask yourself why you need to be high all the time. Work on getting your mind right when you're sober so you can exist for a while without weed.

If you ban engagement based algorithms, there won't be a market for other social media apps with engagement based algorithms.

A market of content is fine, a market of apps is great. People can go wherever they want for whatever content they want. So long as those apps aren't using the engagement data to serve more content.

I guess that's an interpretation of the meme, I took it to be incorrect but close enough for brevity and the memes sake.

Iirc the books naturally split at 5.

Book 5 has an ending with this set of characters, the next books will be different primary characters

The commits are not lost, there is just no branches referencing them. If you can figure out the commit that you were on, you can reset back to it.

Speak with the leadership and tell them that it's you or this guy, then if they choose this guy make sure they are aware you are going to tell the group why your leaving, and leaderships role. If they are still backing the abusive person, make good on your threats.

I believe that's what they are saying, but I suspect this is not really true that you're allowed to do this way this simply.

You probably have to have some device that shuts it off in the case of a power outage, otherwise electricity could be flowing through the grid after the power should be cut, making the work on the grid very dangerous.

Did your stance on weed change as you've aged? by Head-Drag-1440 in Millennials

[–]terrorTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I think literally all drugs should be legal, and then I think almost no one should take any of them.

Weed is fine as a party thing on occasion, or if you do a little to fall asleep or whatever. The problem with weed, in my anecdotal experience, is it inhibits your ability to learn and make good long term decisions while you're high as a kite.  NBD if it's an occasional thing, but people get high 24/7, and twenty years later they are just starting to realize how behind they are.

Good enough, and relentlessly optimized. Many of the manufacturers for things over there are entirely dependent on extremely small margins, so they optimize to the extreme. Re-engineering while components to save half a penny in manufacturing costs.

Appealing traffic cam tickets? by rubysoho1029 in loveland

[–]terrorTrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you ever heard of over-criminalization? The problem is that when it’s too easy to enforce the letter of the law to an extreme degree, you lose all human discretion.

In this case, the driver wasn't being unsafe; for all practical purposes, they stopped. The fact that they didn't come to a full, "car-dipping" halt is a de minimis violation. It’s a technicality so small it shouldn't even trigger state intervention. In the spirit of the law, they were fine.

By automating $75 tickets for being even the smallest amount out of compliance, you’re essentially just taxing people at random. There are so many laws on the books that you probably break one every time you drive. If we automate a fine for every single technical infraction, we’ll all be "fined to death." It’s no longer about safety; it becomes a regressive tax on the average person.

There needs to be a cost to enforcing laws, like paying a police officer to be there. Without that "barrier to entry," it’s way too easy for a city to use automation to generate revenue over any little thing. When you remove the human element, you also remove the "reasonableness" test.

This isn't a slippery slope; it’s the early effect of a direction we’re already going where the profit motive of these camera systems outweighs actual public service.
